It's not when computers become smarter than humans that you need to worry about, it's when they reach the point where they control humans, which is increasing every day.

For what it's worth...our daughter in Holland said they are having an unbelievably mild winter there...temps in the 50's which is bizarre for the winters there.

Hi Phillip. If you belive the Bible, it's because man decided to follow evil in the garden of Eden. The Earth was perfect until the devil came along and told Adam & Eve that God was lying.
We hold such high regard for this miniscule piece of rock we call home, but God does not.
This should give you some perspective, yet all you hear is we ought to save the planet. Why?

That's a nice link Mike...thanks...I got a little feeling like that when I first visited the Grand Canyon...we pulled in at sunset...I still remember the feeling of how small I felt looking across to the north rim of the canyon...and the enormous amount of time involved in the process of water forming such a magnificent formation was mind boggling...it all made me feel so small and insignificant in the big picture of time and space...but at the same time I was impressed with a poigant sense of the importance of the short time each of us have here on the planet...I'll never forget that moment when I first looked out across the Grand Canyon...it brought tears to my eyes and a new perspective to my life.

Mike, "saving the planet" means keeping it livable, like it was when you came along. You ask why we shd save it? So your kids and grandkids dont have to live on a garbage dump. (I'm assuming you've got kids.)

Mike, there's an old proverb that contains the words like "make the world a better place when you left, than it was when you got here." That's not the exact wording; but the message is that we were given this magnificent place to live in, and enjoy; not to destroy.
Look around the universe; the link you provided illustrated it perfectly. There's no other planet that looks like Earth, or has the resources like Earth...that could sustain life, as we know it. For example, look at the moon and Mars. We've sent cameras to both places, and they're nothing more than giant gravel pits. Whether or not there was water on Mars 10,000 years ago is irrelevant; we have neither the resources or the technology to go there and live today. That's reason enough, to preserve this world.
And as Rusty said, there are so many tremendously beautiful and awesome places, here for us to admire; why would we not want to save it for our kids and grandkids?
You have the choice to believe in God or not. I've made mine. I just don't believe all of this wonder around us could've just happened "by chance". Out of millions of bodies in the universe, this little insignificant one called Earth was chosen, to bear life as we know it. I thank God every day for that miracle, and that privilege.

Looking for the "LIKE" button. Thank you, Dale. Well said.
This started out as a sarcastic cartoon/post. Never figured on all the attention. However, it is a real healthy thing for us to interact in a respectful manner.
Hope 2014 brings good things to you and your families.
