if it is a contest to see who can SING or has singing abilities, etc. then let them sing and be judged on that alone... I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in their sexual inclinations and see no point in putting that info out in public... except that now our bizarre culture embraces that particular discretion- heck, let's face it, it is downright COOL to make that claim... it is now an easy way to be a "hero"-- look at the mediocre pro basketball player who barely contributed 3 points per game, was on the verge of being a free agent with nobody looking at hiring him... he pulls the "I'm a homosexual" card, and all of the sudden everybody is cheering for him, visits to the White House... too bad he still can't play basketball worth a snot. Music stars who have long faded out of the limelight, suddenly "Come Out" and are thrust back into stardom- coincidently they were just releasing a new album at the same exact time...hmmmm
On a side note- the current pop culture push is to put this movement on equal ground with the Civil Rights movement- to pretend that they are one and the same- makes me livid to the core.
"where are we going?! and why are we in this hand basket?!"

WHY SHOULD IT?? He is very talented, but maybe he ought to direct his energy in getting better, training his voice, learning more about his craft instead of simply becoming a homosexual rights spokesperson... I really hope that is not the only way he can win the competition.

After watching the video, again, and re-reading all 42 posts on this thread ( to this point ), it has become, very clear ( to me ) that the only ones responsible, for the furor with which we have approached this thread, and passed judgement on this so talented kid for saying, in front of the TV cameras, that he was kicked out of his home by his parents, when he was 18 years old ( he is 20 years old, now ), when they found out that he was gay....are the producers of the TV show...No one else should be blamed.
The kid is only trying to get a chance to exploit his God given talent......I can imagine those AHs saying to each other, behind close doors: "We've got to use his gay story....It's going to increase the ratings of the show"
So, they ( the producers ) prepare a little script, beforehand, in which, "casually",when the kid is being interviewed, in front of the cameras, he is going to be asked "leading" questions, so he can go ahead and tell his sad story of being kicked out of the house for being gay.
Of course, he is going to agree with the plan....He just wants a chance to perform and show his skills and, if this is what it takes, he'll do it....What if he says: "No, I am not going to tell my story.".....Do you, really, believe that he would have had a chance to perform?......I don't think so.
These people ( the producers or, as I prefer to call them, IDIOTS ), behind this type of shows, are only interested in raising the ratings of the show, no matter how....Of course, each candidate who will participate or compete on their show has to go through a "pre-interview", handled by these producers, precisely to find out if he or she has a compelling story to tell....a story which will help them, if told, increase the interest of the audience in their show and, thus, increase the ratings of the show.
Guess what?....They found out he was gay....What could be better to raise the ratings than a gay story?
Today, I had lunch with a good friend of mine....He is a musician and has a small group, which performs in different locations, in OKC.
I told him the story of this kid and the reactions of the different members of Letterville, who participated in this thread.....His reply was: "I don't even want to think of what your buddies, in Letterville, would have had to say if they find out that my drummer, is blind, gay and has a day job as a mortician."

OK- I could believe your buddy knows a guy who is blind and gay, but c'mon Ricardo, do you really expect us to believe that a drummer would actually have a day job?

Something tells that Neil would never have kicked his son out of the house for having a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend...from his comments over the years it's evident to me that the love he has for his son is unconditional.
Not only his drummer is blind and gay.... he, also, has a day job as a mortician.....
I don't have any reason to doubt my friend......He is a very reliable man...Besides, and, above all, he is a musician...and musicians do not have too many gigs in this area, so I imagine that a day job, for a musician with not too many gigs, in OKC, is very feasible ......What can I say?
I am really impressed with you Michael.....You believed he is gay, a drummer and blind, but not that he, also, has a day job.

P.S. -- Michael......forgot to mention...he is, also, black.

Isn't it ironic that the "race card" and "gay card" can be played to one's advantage today whereas in the past being of color or being gay meant you were the subject of hate and discrimination...sounds like "poetic justice" to me.

sorry- my post about the musician friend was a feeble attempt at humor- as a fellow drummer, I thought I would try my hand at a light-hearted jab at a fellow musician- hence the little smiley face at the end of the post... again, sorry for the confusion

No need to be sorry.....I understood. I, also, thought it was funny, when he told me......It took me a while to digest it......Still, I really think it is hilarious.

It's just a matter of time before we see gay marriage legalized in most states...politicians change with the mood of the people and the mood across the country is turning in favor of gay rights...and just like interracial marriage a few years back...once people realize how powerful the momentum is...they'll give up trying to stop it...check out what Cindy McCain says about it in the article below.

There is no mood of the people, the sheep are always manipulated. Remember hope and change? If we had a nation of free thinkers who were self sufficient with a moral center, most of this crap wouldn't fly.
But hey, as George Carlin said, when you are born you get a ticket to the freak show, and if born in America you get a front row seat.

Just seeing this post; what a wonderful gifted young man this is. May he have a rich and enlightening life but more than that, may others be enlightened to see the beauty of this person instead of anything negative. I am so proud and moved that the judges were so kind and supportive with their hearts and making sure that it got through to this precious young man. That's what I do like to see on television; a positive story. We need to look for the beauty and goodness of human beings and life and move toward that.
