Ok....

Here's the final tweak on that blasted sign I posted earlier....I had to stick the leaves back in (instead of the tree) and change the color of the sign...but they liked the font/layout and the hoop-dee-doo philligree....

I have a check for 50% down and will collect the other 50% when complete.

I'm making the sign only....not installing...not doing the side posts....

Selling price was $1,650.

No more corny bong jokes.

How do you like that big "lettuce bush" under the sign???

The bottom line for me is that Steve came in here and made his wishes known and was ignored. That is what really bothers me, not the topic.
That and the fact that some feel like they have the right to personally attack others.

I do apologize for, and I'll try to be more careful with my joking, I have a pretty odd sense of humour, if I am coming across as obnoxious or mean I need to be more attentitive. It won't be the first or last time my intentions have come across wrong, or that I have caused hurt feelings. If this comes across as phoney, well I guess everyone will just have to base their opinions on what they know of me and go from there. You can't win em all.

*edited to add the word "for" to clarify what I do and do not apologize for.

Now, that wasn't so hard was it?

Nice looking sign Todd. Gonna be sweet done! are you going to "tone" up the colors on the leaves to break them away from the "hoop dee doo" accent? Are the letter going to gold leaf?

Jake - Yeah..I felt the same way about the tone on the leaves, well, mainly the left one....and made a mental note to boost it in the actual job.

I could pop the leave out of the philligree more too ...letters will be that shiney gold paint someone suggested on the original post....customer is not willing to spend the extra $$$, which i dont mind because I haven't had a chance to do a gold job yet...scary man.

That's what I'd do...NOT

Kelly,

I don't know what you are apologizing for. You have an opinion and you expressed it without the intent of offending anyone. And if it did, The heck the 'em. If some of the skin around here were as thick as their heads, there wouldn't be any problems.

One little suggestion. I'd like to see Woods just a tad bigger and less extended. It looks a little computer squished to me. But it is looking real nice!

Todd,

From some of the previous posts, shouldn't that leaf have seven or nine lobes?

Nice design, anyway.

...Tod, $1650 seems like tight money for that type of sign. Make a sample to show them (how pretty it is) and offer them "the gold leaf upgrade" for an additional thow....and watch crowding your margins dude.

Todd,

You can dome the letters and gild them. It is a spectacular effect. Make a sample as Billy Pickett says. It will enable you to upsell jobs like this quite easily.

Kelly- Good POST. Off or On Topic. No matter.
What matters is that this area is a general meeting place. Discussions are braught up, re thought, rehashed, in this open BULLITEN BOARD.
Sometimes people get their noses tweeked. We move on.

Possible solutions: a area just for OT issues.?
What about a area for just serious sign painters.?
Well, that all just is Silly. The established format is perfectly alright.
I take my hat off to Kelly for bringing this issue up.
Keep the faith

Thanks for the tips and suggestions...I'll implement some of them in the final.

I'd like to try Gold...but this is a job I don't have much time to do, and I don't know squat about gilding....

I'm afraid to muck it up as a first attempt....

I still have a personal project that I would like to attempt that on...if I ever get to it....

You may remember me posting this about a year ago...I still haven't done it, but this is a small personal yard/landscape sign I wanted to do for myself and put some "gold" attempts into:

 -

I still have to tweak the "Gill's" lettering but I want that to be my first "gold" test...

The idea of adding an OT section of the BB has been brought up many times and I have even spoke to Steve about it a few times personaly, the fear is that some peoples post will have to be moved, and others will boarder on which forum it fits in, which will creat a policing system and alot more work for the moderator.

the only solution

create a "flag system" other websites use it, and it would make it simple and democratic.
Every post qwould have a new icon at the top of the page, a 'flag' simply click the flag if you think the post is offensive or insulting, that would send a message to the moderator, and if he gets 10 or 20 flags the post is removed, completely and automaticly.
Lets face it what some people find ammusing others find offensive, thats why porn AND horror movies are still made.

with the 'flag' system, it would only take a few clicks and the posts that turn into pizzing matches and end up flaming would never make it that far. But at the same time it I am the only one offended by a post and flag it, it would not be removed it would take 10, 20 or a predetermind amount of flags, to remove it.

Good Bye to the posts that have 156 responses of 2 people bickering back and forth about politics, sex, drugs or how to make applesauce.

its really a simple concept and very easy to impliment and use. other sites have the feature and it works!

all in favor of a "flag system"?
