Just thought I'd throw my latest "faux destruction" sign photo up here for those of you who don't get Signs of the Times. It was for a NASCAR collectible store. As usual, No walls were harmed while making this sign. Enjoy your day!

A Toronto television station has a cool "destruction sign" with a Chevy Blazer (or something - sorry...I'm not a car guy) hanging out of a wall...a couple of stories in the air...with a wheel spinning. I've always wondered who did that sign.

FANTASTIC! But how did you do it? Did you paint the background black, to fake the hole? did you use Sign foam as the concrete, and mount it off the wall for the 3d effect? huh! didya!

Holy Smokes! (no pun intended) I didn't expect to get flamed. I've never been flamed. Thanks for all the compliments! I was going to try to reply to questions on how this sign was done individually through e-mail but now I guess I'll just post it here. I didn't know that many of you would be that interested in the details. It's really rather simple. If you haven't seen the article in the March issue of Signs of the Times (strictly commercial) that explains how I did a similar sign for a car audio store, click here to see a photo of it. The guys at this store saw the sign on the website and wanted something like it for their store. Normally I don't use any similar designs very close to each other, but seeing as how Lubbock is about as close to Fort Worth as Atlanta is to Jacksonville, I figured that it was far enough apart. With the Crank It Up sign, the "hole" was painted on the building. With the 2Fast sign the "hole" was really part of the sign. I simply mounted everthing on a piece of PVC before it was coated and painted. Everything is made out of a gazillion EPS foam pieces, glued together and coated with with two-part polyurethane spray. (The same stuff used for sprayed-in truck bed liners) The sign then becomes four seperate pieces. 2, FAST, 4 and U. I included some bricks like there was really brick underneath the stucco even though there wasn't any brick in the building. It's just metal and stucco. The whole thing is held in place with all-thread posts and constuction adhesive. If they ever want to take it down, part of the building is coming with it. After it was mounted I painted all the "cracks" around it with an airbrush in brown and black. That's about it....If anyone has any more questions drop me an e-mail. I'll get back as soon as I can. Thanks again, Glad y'all liked it...

I'm going to give some serious consideration to that job offer, Rob....although I think the trans-pacific commute might make for a very long day.
