Even though my Dad was not in the "Sign" Business.( He was very talented in making things with his hands ) The 1955 Chevy Cameo Carrier pictured with my Street Rod, he bought new..in fact I used to use this "Truck" to date in...... As far as being a Hot Rodder, he used to out run the "Revenuers" In Wilkes Co. N.C. in a "A" Model Coach......he was a fast and very good driver....hauled a lot of "Shine" out of those mountains to near by Winston Salem NC.... (This was in his younger days ) He later repented his "Wayward Ways" and became an upstanding citizen in his community....He was about 73 years old when this photo was taken.

Shep, what great picture. I love those Chevy Cameos. "HotRod Lincoln" was made famous by Commander Cody and his Lost Panet Airmen, but I'm quite sure that it was written by someone else. As a matter of fact, Bill Kirchen, who was the guitarist with CC at the time, released a "killer" live version of that song about 2 years ago.

OK guys, ya made me do a search:) CRAFT disease limits what I can pull up on my own.. I've seen the Hot Rod Lincoln in various magazines but couldn't remember the guy's name. A muscian named Charlie Ryan wrote and recorded the song back in 1955 on a private label. Sales were pretty limited. Since then a number or groups ( Commander Cody and Asleep at the Wheel ) have covered the song and there is even a rockabilly band named Hot Rod Lincoln. The song was based on an actual car that still exists , has been restored and the last I heard was being shown at shows on the west coast by Charlie Ryan himself. Charlie was also selling 45's of the song out of the back of the car. It was Charlie Ryans personal car, a Model A Ford coupe, red with a V-12 Lincoln engine. From the pictures I've seen of the car I would guess the Model A body was fitted to the Lincoln frame rather than the engine installed in the A ,as the car sits pretty odd.
