The customer's request was simple...make it look good. Here's what we started with...
...a very sunfaded box truck with an obvious mark where the original graphics were.
Step one was making the truck look better. After a good cleaning, a quart of UV Clear and an equal amount of mineral spirits mixed together made for a fast drying, sprayable clear that brought back the color and finish to near original condition. A small spray patten saved us the time of masking and the mild breeze was a plus. Just enough to help it dry, not so much to make spraying a chore. So much for the old ghost.
Just over an hour later, the surface was dry and the vinyl applied. Just over an Hour and a half with 2 of us.
Gump decided that a few of the large rivets weren't doing the lettering much good and took a few minutes with a brush and some Chrome Yellow OS paint to touch them up.

Good work- but I'm not sure I'd want to put vinyl on fresh paint/varnish quite so soon- at least not with the stuff I use!

I reduced the brushable gloss 50% so it runs through the HVLP gun smoothly at about 45 PSI pressure with a smaller pattern. There was some overspray onto the aluminum edges, but certainly nothing that was going to hurt it. It took about 1 hour to spray both sides of the truck, spraying from about 6 inches away and moving quickly. I wasn't going for the "car show" finish, but more to bring back the color.
The graphics went on the back door, which was in good condition, while the clear was drying.
I think I'm starting to get the hang of this sign stuff... Rapid
