We had a referral customer come in who wanted vehicle lettering along with a more professional look for their business.
Here's their current card they came in with:
They wanted something a little more old-fashioned looking. I don't have much experience with "period" type designs, so my fonts and flourishes might not be an authentic match, but time and money are an issue, so I can't really take the time to research it perfectly. Also, I'm sure the colors are not authentic, but the guy is color blind and can only see blues so they are insisting on blue. I kinda "stole" the flourishes and text path from a link to some digitized files from the Letterhead site that Kelly posted here a little while back. (Chickering Pianos, anyone?) Thanks, Kelly!
Anyway, here we are:
And here it is on the vehicle:

Very nice execution Tracie! I think it looks great....
If there were any criticism it would only be that ... while the cabin looks great on the "close-up" image....it seems to sort of turn into a blob of blue on the "far-off" image....
Maybe some of the blues can be changed to other colors in the image? Green grass, another color for the cabin, that type of things....or perhaps opening up some of the cabin elements for visibilitys sake...such as fewer slats of siding that show more space between the horizontal lines?
I think you did an awesome job at capturing an old-tyme feel though!

I think it is miles above what he had, Tracie. Very "homey" and friendly looking too. Constructive crits, I know you said you were limited on fonts, but the script on his name could have been less "wedding-invite" looking. Still better than his original Hobo tho. I would have made a smoother curve on the "Home Repair", and tightened it up in the center, as the R looks squashed. And tamed that swash a bit on the lower case "r". The highlights are a nice touch. But all in all, it's very nice and a major improvement. I love the size and the placement on the vehicle as well. Who says it has to be huge and screaming? love....Jill

Nice & simple touches added to the highlight edge of the lettering, and the ivory outline is something another sticker shop might not put the effort in, but it really makes it complete. I think you did a great job. Those last three letters don't quite arch the right way, but hey, it's unique, right? On the truck, I can't tell if you used more than one blue for the copy block on the right - but a medium blue for his list of services and the dark for phone # would be a nice way to complement the logo. Thanks for sharing!

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

Thanks guys for your replies. Funny, a lot of the suggestions you made were things I had noticed myself. I don't think the customer will notice them though and I don't have the approval yet on the design, so until I do, I don't want to spend anymore time on it. (Well, actually I DO, I just can't yet.)I will do all the tweaks though before I produce it.
Todd, the blurriness of the house is really just the low resolution of the image. The lines are actually much finer than they appear, but I agree, it does appear like a blob in the picture. I didn't want to fill in too many colors because I thought it would take away from the period feel. I actually think it should be line art only without color, but I think it needs the light blue for balance, when I take it away there's not enough weight on the bottom anymore. I was wondering if I should fill the trees in on either side of the house though.
Jill, I agree with you on the "r". It looked long to me to, I wasn't sure if I'd just looked at it too long. And now I can't get the "wedding invitation" look of the script out of my mind. Guess I'll have to change that too... but to what? Any suggestions?
And Jerry, I'll add a little distort to those last three letters. The copy on the left has light blue bullets and there are "fawn" rules on either side of the phone number which will match the outline on the logos.
