Thanks everybody; always nice to share in some shop talk with you folks once in awhile.
The mask was prepped and painted with automotive urethane primer and a base colour of white, then wet sanded with 600. I drew the top and front design areas on with a grease pencil and layed out the side area for the flames, paw and torn effect on tracing paper and then transferred that onto both sides. Most of the design was airbrushed freehand except for the flames, claws, and ripped effect which were done with stecils cut from premask tape. I used automotive base/clear and then clear coated and buffed for the final finish.
This job would be worth about a grand but I would be interested to know what other people get for these things...Ryan?
I have another one to start that is less complicated and the price on it is going to be 500.00

I'm not at all surprised at the price, because it is worth it, it takes a lot of time. probably a couple of days if you really add it up. I've done a few over the years, and I can sy they are a pain in the butt, but Fun also. So if you can get paid they are great.

I really like what you've done! But as both a coach and a goalie, I've got a couple of questions about the HECC certification.
When I was looking into having my mask done a couple of years ago, I checked the safety certification regulations. It said something to the effect that any modifications (including painting) that were done by anyone other than the manufacturer voided the certification. Therefore, I decided to not have anything done. Do you know, does that still apply?
Scott, whose hoping to get his mask repainted!

I've heard of this concern before, same thoughts apply to motorcycle helmets, etc. This is only the 3rd mask that I have done personaly and I'm not able to answer your question but maybe someone else will add to this post who can.
All I will point out is the amount of them that are being done, including the NHL players. I don't think that any of those are done strickly by a manufacturer. And I think that the only durable enough product to final finish them with would have to be the automotive clear.
