this sign is already underway it is cut to shape painted and carving on the main copy has begun I would like critiques on the rest of the sign. im not sure about the tree. letters will be gilded any advice would be appreciated

i'd move the bottom line of copy up to tuck in closer to "hand crafted signs" -- its looking a little lonely down there and i think the sign would benefit from the white space below the lettering, rather than in-between.
also, there's a lot of gold already, so maybe you make the tree more pictoral (painted realistically) rather than gilded. i'm guessing the tree will be carved. a raised applique tree would be nice. if the letters are cut into the face then having the tree raised up will add depth.

scooter thanks for the advice painting the tree to match the autumn leaves had crossed my mind Im planning to make the leaves more realistic also. I think what I will do is make a mold of the carving once its done and try it both ways and see wich looks better.

Hey Richard....nice sign. I would leave the gold tree and gold outline for the oval, but make the black background in the oval the burgundy.

A nice looking sign!! I wouldn't critique it unless you asked for it, sooo....
The "S" in signs...maybe rotate back slightly - it looks tilted compared to other copy. Also would do some node editing to get the "N" in signs to flow better with other copy.
Lastly, maybe consider a thin black panel behind long copy line. maybe with a shape on each end similar to the other shapes in sign. It might balance better with the black oval , which I like.

Hi Richard. I can tell you put a lot of thought into this and I like a lot of things about it with a couple suggestions.
I agree with Scooter that the "Since 200" line is causing some problems. Another possible location for it is over the word Signs, or consider deleting it altogether in the name of beter balance. (it might even work better on a whole serarate panel under the main sign).
The letters for "Doyle Sign" trip me up a little too. Particularly the "S" and the "N". You seem to be slipping in and out of a 'thick & thin' format with the "D", "O" and "G" being virtually constant stroke width. The "N" has the most pronounced stroke variation, but in the opposite of the usual rule, where the vertical strokes would normally be thinest and the cross stroke heavier. See if reversing the stroke order on that "N" doesn't make a major improvement.
One more - not a biggie...the doo-dads on the sides of the tree oval seem a little delicate for the weight of the other elements. The size of them and overall shape or direction seems ok, but something I can't describe feels a little tense up there. Minor anyway.
Great colors, great swing to the copy, GREAT panel! That is going to rock carved and gilded.
