I like the concept. One thing you may try is to set the "incorporated" under the line. Maybe space the letters out a bit. That would allow you the space to move the Name down into the design some. I would try to keep the top of the name no higher in the design than the square graphic.
...just my .02

I would try something other than the black square for the reel holder(maybe overhead) and would make the point of where the flat white line comes off the reel at a place nearer the bottom center.

I'd consider using another font, maybe something like serpentine or something, so that it doenst go past the top horizontal line from the the square. I'd definately try to get rid of the INC (IMHO) but if not, under the bottom coil line sounds good. Good luck

OK.
Here it is after a little "Tweaking"
Sorry but the Client says the INC stays.....

As far as the "Black Square"....this and the other letters will change colors, dependant on the substrate color.
Thanks for all the input.but I am still open for any and all suggestions...including complete re-design if you wish....come on..don't be bashfull.....I am sure a lot of you can do a vast improvement on this preliminary design..
Shep'

The "Grid" that is showing up will NOT be in the letters.they will be solid white...

Maybe try a "stronger" letter style.

I like the idea of having that line no longer than the name over it.
Looks good though.

The original shows something coming off a roll, but doesn't show what. Maybe the line coming off the roll could go up at an angle to meet another line going down the other side like a roof. Might clarify what they do.

I too like the concept ... but have a slightly different take.
IMO there's too much negative space ... I like my "logos" tight.
I also agree with need for bolder font but like to see this in a "rounder" bold font.
my take on your design

the roof was an after thought that maybe really doesn't need to be there

Extrusion - Aluminum products manufactured by forcing a material through a custom pre-cut shape in die. Extruded aluminum is usually of a heavier gauge than formed metals and is heat treated for strength.

Two more designs that was sent to me by email. (They could not post at this time)....

This one is by Mark Yearwood

This one is by Alan Dearborn

You "Heads" have been very helpfull.... Now I have a tough decision as to which I like best....there are elements in each one that I like......and there are some that I like , that I am not capable of reproducing with the equipment that I own.......
I will post the one chosen, when a decision is made..........
The floor is still open.....any more versions out there ???

Again THANKS for the great response.....

Hi Arvel,

I like the start you took in your first posting. In my opinion you just need to tweak your elements a bit. [Smile]

This one does not have a lot of bells and whistles but I think it is clean and very reproducible…

I thought that the words “STEEL COIL” could be a little bolder than in your original version. Additionally I agree with most that “incorporated” could be moved bellow the horizontal base line. I tried to keep the colors the same as yours, but they could be changed.

We could play with this all day... [Cool] [Cool]

Good luck and I hope I have given you a little more to work with,
Joe

Now everybody's gettin warmed up here! Lots of nice ideas.

Shep,

When I first saw your design, I liked it, despite the fact you had that helvetica thing goin on, ha ha ha.

The first thing I wanted to do is put some space between the two lines of main copy and drop inc below the wire.

Then I got to thinkin, if you took a roll of carpet and let it fall off the roll, it would lay flat out like you have it. Steel wire would have to be "handled" to achieve this. I'm still racking my brain for an idea with it coming off the roll as it would in real life. Maybe somebody else has an idea like that. Maybe I drink too much coffee, ha ha ha.

Keep em coming folks, this is great learning.

Shep,

I really like the clean look of your orginal design,

I also like the left justified look of the lettering on Alaln Dearborns design. I think you had the right idea with your first.

I'm with Bob Rochon on this one.
I liked the original one too. Really think that helvetica works well here. Clean & simple.

I also had it in my mind to add the coil into the circle as Alan Dearborn did in his layout. Might soften the coil effect by making it grey instead of black tho.

The other layouts are all very impressive!
Nice twists on the topic and interesting to see.
