My one man shop is far too busy to be shut down because of a plotter break down. What kind of 2nd plotter do you guys (and gals) have? I currently have a Summa 640. Great plotter ! !
But should I really have to buy (over $1000) another, "just in case" ? ? ?
Any ideas? ?

I have been thinking of buying a 24" Roland CX 24 just because you can get them fo $1495. For a "just in case" plotter and to carry to festivals instead of my 12" Stika which is pretty close to useless for anything other than car tags. It would also help out in those times when I really could use a second "real" plotter and I have a helper.

I am also thinking about a spare Summa T750. Mine has been cutting non-stop for 5 years and we would be in deep doo-doo if it broke. Keep meaning to call Jim Doggett to ask how long it would take to get a new one to me. Jim- are you listening?

I don't know what my back up plotter looks like but I can tell you it's name is either Gregory, Earl Mich, Nichols, Optima. I also have a few local back ups with names you're probably not familiar with. This is back up costs me nothing and about as reliable as you can get. Havin' fun, Checkers

We have a 3 year old Allan Datagraph 830GT that is our back up to a 1 year old Allan Datagraph 830GT.
We liked the original 830 so much that we bought another one. We used to use our Vytek GEM 40 for back up duty but use it strictly for sandblast rubber and stencil work now. It could be pressed into service cutting vinyl if we absolutely had to.
We sure wouldn't want to be caught with our cutter down for any extended period of time. The would leave us with our pants down, as well.
Have a great one!

A few years back we bought a complete second system from JSI, I think it ran about $4000.(because we upgraded to a graphtec plotter) but was well worth the money. We bought it as a back-up to our original system, but it is a real time saver to have a whole second system to work with when we are busy, plus the added insurance that we probably won't ever have both systems down at once.
