Got a 2' x 3' vert. cedar blank to take to the blasters.
I intend to back it with 2 - 2x4's for strengthening and to slow warping. I was not going to do it before the sandblasters but, with cedar being so delicate, would I be ahead to screw the 2x4's on first (for fear that the pressure of the blast could crack or split my cedar)?

Hey Corey. How thick is the cedar you're blasting? 2'x3' doesn't strike me as a real big sign to have to worry about 2"x4" support. Our cedar usually winds up around 1.5" thick after planing.
I don't think I can recall ever needing to use supports with that thickness of cedar, it's really not "delicate" at all.
To answer you question though. I'd go ahead and attach your supports before you have it blasted.
Good Luck.

I just remember dropping a scrap piece of cedar once (approx. 12" square- 2 pcs. glued) from about 2' in the air and, although it didn't break along the glue seem, it broke right in the grain.
I would trust it if I were doing the blasting but, 1 BUMP from the blaster and he blames me for not supporting it first.
