I'm looking for a source for Lexan Polycarbonate ,that is approximately 5 to 8 mil thick, that I can put through a plotter for cutting re-usable stencils. The stuff I'm looking for has a frosted look and it's smooth on one side and rough on the other. Any help would realy be appriciated! Robin Sharrard

I have never tried to find this place but a guy I know how used to do customized vans had tons of Lexan type stuff in all kinds of different styles laying aound. He said he got it at a place called "Cadillac Plastics"? in Atlanta Gerogia. You may want to do a search on Yahoo Yellow Pages and check. I will when I get back in a while. I've been meaning to but I just haven't gotten arount to it. According to that guy they have just about any type of plastic sheeting there is. May be a wild goose chase though, sorry if it is. If anybody else has ever heard of this place post it too. [Cool]

Regal Plastics has had this material in Dallas. The following link will get you to their various locations.

Another source is Transilwrap. Sometimes their minimum order charges are unreasonably high.

Thank You John and David, I'll be contacting these folks in the morning. One of them's got to have what I'm looking for. Robin [Wink]

Sounds like what you are looking for is Gerber Lex-Edge, comes in 15" prepunched rolls for Gerber plotters. You can get it from Hyatts, Grimco, or any Gerber distributor.

Gerber's Lex-Edge is an edge ready material you can run thermal printing on. For cutting stencils though, I wouldn't doubt you could fina a cheaper alternative.

Oh yeah I also used to have chip selector of several thickness & finish varieties of Lexan from GE Plastics

Hiya Robin,
Almost any digital printing supplier should stock what you're looking for.
I buy my lexan from LexJet out of Florida.
If you can't find what you need, let out a yell & I could sell it to you by the foot or the roll.
Havin' fun,
Checkers

Robin, in the San Francisco Bay area there used to be three places to get sheet plastics and polymers. There was Cadillac, Interstate, and Transparent Products. We used to get a transparent roll stock 48" wide by maybe 50 feet, smooth on one side and pebbly on the other. It was a no brand polycarbonate and was inexpensive on a square foot basis. A roll would last about 18 months. I'm pretty sure it was Interstate Plastics in Hayward. The product did not have a name, just a part number which no longer comes to mind.

You could do it with LexEdge but you are paying for the performations and Edge ready.

Give Interstate a call. Vic G

Thanks ALL! I've checked mostly all of these sources and it turns out that Cadilac Plastics is now a part of GEPolymerShapes (1-800-445-0719 x124 Steve, In the Films Division.) They have what I am looking for. It comes in 60" wide rolls that can be purchased by the yard for a fairly resonable price, and it comes in 7 or 10 mil matt finish on one side and coarse on the other. Can be run through most plotters. This stuff makes great stencils that can be used over and over again. Once again, thanks to all of you that took the time to post! Robin [Wink]
