I have v8 OEM. I don't have any books or anything. Which upgrade package do I need to get? I see some that say CorelDraw 10 and some that say CorelDraw 10 Graphics Suite. Do I need to suite to get Paint, Rave, Etc. or just the other one. The difference I see is price. I also see v11 is out or coming out. Should I just wait and spend a little more for that?
Thanks!

Amy..."Graphics Suite" is just the "official" wording for CorelDraw 10. The only price difference is in the upgrade vs. "full" version. Both are identical and always have been. As of version 10 however, the installation process requires you to either have a previous version installed OR have an earlier version's installation CD so that you can pop it into the drive and version 10's installation wizard can verify that you are legal for the cheaper "upgrade" version.
Version 10 is also the first one to arrive with NO hard copy clipart manual or user manual. I use Romcat to find clipart, so the lack of a manual is no problem but not getting a hard copy of the fonts is kind of a pain.
Version 9 would be cheaper for you but there is a SEVERE problem with that version's contour feature. It leaves flat spots randomly and unless you religiously check for them you can end up with a lot of wasted vinyl. For me, contour is one of Corel's most used features, so I would recommend version 10.
Finally, be prepared for another learning experience. Version 10 has several changes that require some digging to figure out.
I hear that version 11 will be out in November. Can't wait!

I just checked out Corel's site and they say late July for the release of CorelDraw 11. SRP is 249 us for the upgrade.
I've been using CorelDraw 10 and it is great. It was very buggy before the first service pack (which Corel is famous for) but now I really like it. Looking forward to Corel 11 but I don't know that I will jump on it as soon as it comes out... I learned the hard way with version 10

Hi Amy, I have used all versions from 3-10 (with the exception of ver.6) and I would recommend either going with version 9, or waiting to see what other have to say about 11 when it comes out. From what I've seen, the biggest difference between 9 & 10 is there is more web-design features with 10. There seems to be a lot of bugs in 10, so I use 9 for all of sign designing. I agree with Dave about the contour feature though! What a pain! If you use another type of software such as Graphix Advantage or Sign Lab though, you can avoid the Corel by doing your contours with those programs. Other than that one little annoying problem, 9 seems to work best for me. Corel has a history of doing their best work with the odd-numbered versions for some reason. Good luck with it! If anyone does get Version 11 soon, please let us know how it does. I'm not planning on upgrading any time soon, so I'd love to hear from everyone else how it does.

I have Corel 8 with the newest patches and I ain't going nowhere else. I can't see going thru the learning curves with the newer versions and loosing some features that I have now. It does all I want it to do..... I can import into Flexi and that's all that matters.

Mario and John!!! Yer both starting to sound like Joe P and Bob B!!!
If nobody tries the newer stuff how does the software evolve?
I was quite content when I had Corel 2..THEN I saw someone with Corel 4..I HAD to have it and I did...THEN I discovered Corel 8 and bought it too!...been hooked ever since! BUT I can't ever imagine still using Corel 2 or Corel 4 ever again..They are so short on features!
8 was an excellent program, 9 was even better except for one flaw, and 10 is fine too. I REALLY am looking forward to the release of ver 11. I don't care about glitches, bugs or whatever!!! NEW TOY!!!!!!!
AND COrel WILL fix the bugs!!! Not like some other software folks! LOL LOL

I got a full box verision of 9, unopened from someplace off the internet for $149, or a little less about 2 months after 10 came out. It had all of the manuals and stuff. It is cheaper now BUT I bet that they will have 10 cheap like that soon after 11 comes out. If I remember right I found the listing for it at mysimon.com.

Mine is broke and I am going to fix it. Just a matter of when. I always upgrade everything if I have the money. Gotta stay up with technology or you'll get left behind.
The debate can end now though! My question is answered.

I'm using nine now, and I plan on waiting for 11 to come out before considering an upgrade. I will most likely lay low and see how it fares with a few folks who get it before me first though.
