a new (potential) customer has an electric sign cabinet on their building from the previous tenants. they'd like a sign put in. the problem is, the old sign faces are missing, and its sort of an unusual shape (at least to me). is this a standard thing in some catalog someplace, or what? i'm really not sure how to proceed. [Confused]

Here's a drawing i did to show what it looks like. I'm not sure if the curved bands in the middle are supposed to support the face, or to push the face out further.

any help is appreciated.

Be very careful about this one! Many of those incandescent pan face signs DO NOT meet code requirements! a few years ago, some outfit was up and down the state selling and installing them, without permits.

If it is a legal set of cans, there are companies that will custom form new pan faces for you, BUT it ain't gonna be cheep! (Unless you can find the company that originally made that sign).

Good luck!

Scooter, climb around and see if there is a sticker on the sign identifying the maker. Another option would be to show your drawing to Mike at Cailiforia Sign Supply in Benicia. They handle a big share of the electrical signs in that neighborhood and he's been around long enough to know what's up.

Are those really incandescant bulbs? What would prevent those metal bands from causing cold spots on the lighted face?

Thanks Rick, I'll give him a call.

Yep, they really are incandescent bulbs. (and i cheated on the illustration -- they're actually alternating yellow and white lamps).
