Hi, i know i've seen stuff on this before, but didn't write it down.
What is the BEST "screw in the lid of o/shot can" deal?
When should i use o/shot hardner. I'm mostly doing lettering, with the occasional stripe job. What is the ratio of hardner to paint? I use Darby's Reducer for my thinning.
Thanks, John / Big Top / it's a sign circus

10% to 20% 1-Shot #4007 Hardener, nothing else in the paint. I palette with either reducer or mineral spirits when I need to wet the brush as it will get sticky. I added a link but it does not work.
The screw I use is called a thumb screw, self tapping after a hole is in cap. Easy to install and remove.

I prefer "license plate" screws. they're just the right size. Steve they are talking about putting a screw thruogh the lid of the 1-shot cans so you don't have to open them (other than the occasional stirring). Just take out the screw invert the can and squeeze out whatcha need.

I feel it takes a long time to get enough paint to work with this way. I've got some cans with #8 self tapping and some with Joey's thumb screws.

Novice alert! For anyone reading this who is relatively new to one shot - they are talking about adding the hardener AFTER pouring some paint out, never IN the can. Never is so much as a brush or a stir stick that has come in contact with hardened paint to be dipped back into a clean can of 'shot'. Ok, carry on.

Thanks, Joey, for the info. Thumb screws, available at your local TORTURE-R-US store? Joe, thanks for the warning about getting the "hardened" paint back into the mother can.I've been using o/shot for many a year, but hardner is a new (for me) thing to consider. Do you? use it in general lettering jobs?

I don't work with paint that much but i do the same thing with stain...I put two screws opposite each other in the lid...when I need just a little , I remove one screw and pour the amount I need (sometimes squeezing the can oil can fassion) and replace the screw before tipping the can back up (this prevents air from gatting back in). If I need a lot, I remove both screws and it pours right out...when I have enough I replace the top screw while the can is still tipped, wait til the flow slows down and then replace the bottom screw (again with the can still tipped). Until I started doing this I would never get to the bottom of a can of stain before it hardened. I also do this with my house paint....I've saved lots of paint this way.... Joe. John, I mostly use hardeners in background colors (and for that, I use hardener almost every time). Not so much in lettering unless I plan to put a hardened clear over it.
