Glen...I had one of those PNC 1000's and there is no way to extend the cutting length past 62.99" without "welding" or "panelling". That particular model and one other (I can't remember which) were the ONLY ones that were limited to that length. There is NOTHING you can do to change that. Trust me I spent many hours trying to, including a few calls to Roland tech support. All the other cutters have a default length of 62.99" but you CAN set the length to be longer in your software and they will accept that new length and cut without "welding" or "panelling".

Sorry for the bad news.

If it's the same as the European ones you have to set the page length in Signlab to 1600mm, that's the maximum the Roland will cut in one go. If you use the tiling within Signlab you can get it to cut bigger jobs but they will cut in 1600mm sections. If you get it right the pieces should join up correctly.

Dave you can get past 1600mm without joins i have done it. Setting the page size in Signlab to more than 1600mm definitely won't work though!

Brian...Yes you can do it, but it does require that the individual lengths be cut one at a time. For example, everything in the first 62.99" gets cut then everything in the second 62.99" gets cut and hopefully, if the cutter didn't have to run back and forth too many times in the first 62.99" then the second part will join up perfectly.

That is what I meant by "panelling" or "welding". However, as you know, the drift is always a problem and sometimes you have to do some manual trimming to make the sections join up acceptably. I used to use a bridge program that accomplished this quite handily but, as I mentioned, it was not always a "perfect" join on long stripes.

Well the tracking is another story!

I was just pointing out that it is possible to cut bigger jobs without joins. You are right though the tracking is a bit hit or miss.

Best just send the file and cross your fingers [Smile]

i got a pnc-1000.....and did a lot of runs on it more then 62.99. as dave says it will panel in signlab,it will do the 62.99 piece then move down to next panel of 62.99. ive done this up to 10 feet with out a problem. when i used to cut from corel 3 which had a page limit size of 30", i would do a drawing in corel and then tell corel to cut it at 200% and it would cut it at 60"....but the only way past that 62.99 is to find a pnc-1100 or pnc-950......i got an 1100 and love it.....still have the 1000 but keep it in the mobile unit never do more then 62" long ruins out there.

now how long have we been bitchin about this point... seems like forever [Frown]

in the old days (dos) the sign cutting programs we used to run the 1000 would do the packet send thingie, very similar to the 'page material' comand on flat bed cutters/drawing machines with all the running back and forth to home position

in those days we all got real good at jumping up outa our seats to run across the room and stop the thing before it skewed totally and junked the whole job [Smile]

after six mths of that we got an 1100... gee i wonder why? [Smile]

none the less as dave said the 1000 and 1000a are the only rolands you cant lie to and change their default length, we have all tried!

so you learn to make your page size 1600mm and get good at manually sending the sections to the machine, the coincidence is that i had an owner of the same machine in my shop yesterday showing her how to do just that

or you try to find a second hand 1100 (rare as rocking horse s*it nowdays) or any other roland which doesn't have the 'set in stone' default
then you keep the 1000 for doing all that little stuff

good luck

cheers
