Wow, a couple threads really blew up over the weekend with some wild comments being tossed around like hand grenades. I had to wince more than once at the gruff responses to the clipart threads. It felt like the Jerry Springer Show.
I'd like to offer a handy thought-filter routine that helps me - Pause before typing and T-H-I-N-K through your words. See if what you are about to say is Thoughtful, Helpful, Important, Necessary and Kind. That last one can be especially hard. You can get the first four all right and still come across as pompus or arrogant.
Unless you purposely WANT to fight, then just say the first thing that pops into your head.

LOL again Joey. And yes Joe you are right. People don't think before they speak...or in this case before they 'write'. We are all guilty. I think the posts just take a huge side road off the main subject sometimes. Plus people don't really read what has been said by those who reply before them. Ah well. This is life. It is important to be kind. But equally important to not take the replies too personal. Especially if there is no smiley face added when needed. Posts: 3729 | From: Seattle | Registered: Sep 1999

Joe...I don't know how many times I've done just that. Type up a big long reply, read it, think about it and wind up not replying at all. Usually they are discussions I'd rather not get into anyway.....delete

Cheryl, You are right, I say enough to get jumped upon but there have been times where I was jumped on for something I didn't say or they did not read my letter completely which is most cases they will lose the meaning of the letter all together. Reading more carefully is a good idea before jumping on someone. And no I'm not innocent, I'm just as guilty, more than some, less than others. But Guilty is Guilty!

More then some, less then others...guilty is guilty! That's me too folks. I already cleared up some of my mudslingin' mess by email, but apologies to the board in general for my lack of thought...fulness.

Yep Joe, if more of that was done, there would be no hard feelings here any more. Now Mark, what was that you said about me?

Hey Joe, Do you want to know what I think??? NO? well too bad!!! cause I am going to type a big long, response about how it's my right to think that way too many people spend way too much time typing away at big drawn out theories, about what They Think is important that We as Signmakers care or should care about, including: the price of corn in Kentucky, the effect of global warming on the marine life of the coast of Africa, the Fact that you can buy Cuban cigars in Canada but not in Miami, the internal tempature of pork when roasting, the price of reefer on the streets of Utah, the abilty of others to point out the obvious and the amazing ability of a 4" boy to PEE over a 3-1/4" ford logo!!!!! which I myself find the urge to do quite frequently, but....Who cares! This is a board about signmaking!! damn, If I just type a step by step on applying vinyl over contour or how to to apply a split brush shade, or creating prismaric lettering in Adobe Illustrator or something that has do do with signmaking!! then we would by on track! uuugh! heres a great step-by-step Chuck Davis did on creating prismatic lettering in Adobe Illustrator, warning it is a sign related topic!!! www.letterheadfonts.com/tutorials/prismaticeffects

The problem is that somehow we started to THINK!...or is it "We think we think?"
Hmmmm...mystery to me.

This type of communication is great, but in the absence of facial expressions and body language, there is tons of stuff taken out of context!
Have you ever formed an opinion of someone or their beliefs, only to meet them in person and find out you were way off base?
I have tried to learn, and I'm not always successful, to read my comments, and not only decide if it expresses my opinion, but also decide if it can be accurately received in this medium. I have probably deleted twice as many things as I've ever posted.
Heated interaction is sometimes fun, but keep it in perspective. When you think winning an internet argument is of high level importance in life........take a walk through the halls of a Children's Hospital. That will place things back in perspective real fast!
On September 12, 2001 how many people really cared what clipart was being swapped?
Life is too precious to knowingly hurt someone. We all do it enough unintentionally.

I gotta agree with Danny Palmer. I have been taking classes to get my degree on-line for over a year. I can't tell you how many times I've seen things taken out of context, turned completely around, or had something read into the subject. The same things happens here at times.
I like the controversy. It helps bring out the new ideas and revives some valuable old one. Some things need no be said. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT CENSORSHIP HERE - I'm talking about self control. Hey, I'm trying to learn all kinds of stuff.

The word is PASSION. Some are very passionate about what they do. This will sometimes bring on strong words. When strong words are exchanged it can sometimes be called DEBATE. As long as the debate does not include personal attacks then debates are good. I don't want to be a sheep and follow everyone. When I disagree I will say so. This is not to say I will always be right but there is always someone who is right and someone who is wrong. When I'm proven wrong I will publicly apologise or just admit I was wrong.
Everyone on this site comes from different social, economic, and religious backgrounds. We will never all be alike, nor should we try. I say debate on about whatever you want. Do not personally attack one another. Learn from your mistakes. Continue to be different then the guy next to you. We don't have to love everyone But we should try to respect them. If I have ever been wrong or personally attack anyone in letterville then let this be my public apology. But I refuse to stop the DEBATE!

good point Rob, but what does that have to do with the Price of Cuba cigars in Georgia or the price of cotton in Cuba?

Ever think the "sheep" that don't get involved in such uselessness aren't following over the cliff, but rather are just sitting back and watching them drop?
Ken, ... "split brush shade" ... please elaborate, never heard that before.
