Who produces the best high performance vinyl? I have always been a fan of 3M however I have limited experience with other brands. Are there better brands for different climates? We build signs for a very dry and sunny climate. Any thoughts?

I really thought 3M had the best until I started using Avery. They have several lines, but the good stuff is A8 and the FT1000 series. I've never seen any vinyl that went over rivets better than the FT1000 series, not even 3M.

Ya know even with 3M there's different hp's... the scotchcal 220 most sign companies use doesn't compare to the Automotive Grade High Performance available thru the automotive side of there business.... same price... twice as good for lasting.. especially with the metallics

I prefer the avery/(fdc) too but use the 3m 220 (gerber)and electrocut/(fdc) stuff all the time. As long as the "hight performance" you buy is CAST you should be ok ... there are "high performance" calandered vinyls out there (that suck IMO) Buy a couple yards of every type you can find localy and play

I generally use Calon high performance cast vinyl (a little bit cheaper here than 3M). In general, I have not noticed a difference in quality or longevity. I did however, notice a difference when we were installing letters on a painted concrete block wall inside a high school. The 3M vinyl adhered more aggressively on the textured wall than the Calon, enabling us to more easily remove the premask.
The lettering we were installing was the "Ring of Honor" recognizing all the valedictorians and salutatorians since the school was established. One student asked: “Duh...what’s a valedictorian?” For some reason, I did not think it would ever apply to him.
