We just upgraded Flexi-Pro 5.9 to version 6.6 and it's quite different.

Question #1: Can't it import Inspire files? I see it'll open a Casmate file. This wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me if it didn't.

Question #2: How do you scroll through your typestyles and view them before actually selcting one. Only thing i'm bringing up is the list of types but I can't seem to view them until i've acutally changed the text to that typestyle. There has to be an easier way.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce,
Believe it or not, Flexi 6.x does not have any ability to directly import Inspire SCI files. There are two options: One involves saving the Inspire data as a CASmate file (SCV), and the other as a Postscript file (EPS). There is a free utility available from the Scanvec Amiable web site for batch file transfers.

With respect to the font preview, in the fonts list box, as you scroll through fonts, they should update to the left of the scroll window. If no text is selected, you'll see 'ABCDEF', whereas if you've got a text object selected while scrolling fonts, you should see the first letters of the selected text applied in each font.

One note: If you're using Windows 2000, there is a parch available for the previews to update properly (for Version 6.5 of Flexi). Hope this helps!

Bruce,

There is a converter program called IC2 that you can download from

Give Me Help

It will convert Inspire files to either SCV or EPS files for Flexi. I have used it quite a bit.

Also, please do yourself a favor and download the SP1 service pack for Flexi 6.6. You can get that from the same web site listed above. The SP1 may save you a lot of headaches when trying to plot.

Thanks guys. Bruce Bowers referred me to IC2 as well. It looks like it'll do the job.

Terry, with regard to the letters...maybe i'm doin it different. I'm not actually at the shop right now but i'll grab the text tool then type in some text. I then highlight the text.
Then I go to the text menu and choose 'font' at which time an alphabetic list of fonts pops up. The only option I have is to select one of the fonts or to choose "more", which just expands to around another 25 or so fonts which are next in the alphabetic order. Each list has the "more" option until I exentually get to the end of the alphabet.

Using this method, I never see an example of any of the fonts. Once I select one of the fonts my line of text will finally change. To actually choose another font I have to repeat the process.

Thanks for the help guys.

Bruce,

For viewing fonts, don't got to your text drop-down menu. Instead:

Hit the T for text on your toolbar. Your DESIGN CENTRAL window, if it's not already open, will open and change to text. Your default text will show in the window. Type whatever you want, then go back and select it, and a window should pop up showing the selected text. Then scroll down throught the different fonts until you see what you want.

When you open Flexi, the first font that you use will be your default until you shut down the program. I hope this is something they change. We should be able to select a default font that never changes unless we want it to.

Hope this helps.

Steven,
In order to choose or change the default font parameters in Flexi 6.x:

1. Go into the Text Mode.

2. In the DesignCentral dialog box, choose the font and parameters (height, etc.) that you desire to be the default.

3. Without clicking in the work area, click the Selection Tool Icon on the toolar. This action makes the font the default.

Thanks Terry!

I appreciate the information about selecting your default font in Flexi 6.x.

I don't know if you use or used Inspire, but they have a great feature of saving all your most commonly used fonts in an easy to find area.

Flexi is a great program, but needs a little help in a few areas, IMHO.
