Hi. Sorry to have to ask something so un-interesting, but does anyone use a hp scanjet 4c with gerber software? I haven't been able to figure out how to regulate what dpi I scan at. The memory size of the file is my only way to control quality. I have lived with it for years, but it's time to learn it the right way. Thank you so much for tolerating my ignorance, & I promise to contribute something totally interesting....next time!

Hi Jerry. I use Gerber software (GA 6.21) and a Hewlett-Packard scanner 6200C. We also use Corel Draw 8, and I scan using the Corelscan utillity, at whatever DPI I may require, save it as an EPS file, and Import this into the Gerber Composer program. If I'm not overly concerned abour the DPI setting, I simply use the "Scan to Vector" feature.
Most photo editing programs will allow you to set a specific DPI scan, but I'm not certain as to how to access or change the Gerber default setting.

Why do I get all those on-line offers to sell me Viagara, when the only thing hardening is my arteries ?

We have a 4C on our Gerber system, but we always scan with Photoshop and touch up before going to Gerber.

What happens is, when the scan starts, the HP twain driver takes over, and when the first scan is done, you get a screen with the preview and a list of devices on the left. The device you pick determines the scan resolution. Screen is low res. There is one that says Linotronics or something like that. It is a high res. The other variable is the image size. If you increase the size with the slider bar, you get a bigger file. The idea is to set the size of the image with the slider to the desired size of the final image to be printed. The 4c is a 300 dpi printer, but it does some kind of dithering trick that makes it act like a higher resolution scanner. The 4C actually produces better results than the crapppy little 1200 dpi that I have at home. Hopefully some of this is helpful to you. Vic G
