I just bought my first can of smiths cream. I'm going to use it with some smalts, but I'm also aware of it's use for blends and shades. Could someone tell me how to use it when blending or point me to a good book where I may learn. I eager to check it out. Any help will be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Hi Rob, Dana Paints also sells White Refined Linseed Oil. You'll need some of that for smooth blends. Start with a mix of 50/50 oil/Smiths Cream. The Smiths Cream helps hold the oil in place so it doesn't sag down the surface. You can then add that to your colors or apply a THIN coat to the subtrate. Brush your colors on and work them together with a brush, then follow with a good roller and a light touch, working from lite to dark and back. If you're picking up too much paint with the roller, give the paint a few minutes to set up some. For commercial (long term) work I usually do the blend twice, let dry completely and top coat with a couple coats of U/V clear. Have fun, and do a few practice boards first.
