We have a product that's new to me called Kovacell, or Kovacel - a foam sandwiched in PVC? Reminds me of GatorFoam, it's lightweight, smooth, easy to paint on except it has a lot of static with it, but I wonder how it holds up. It is being used to replace MDF, wotta disaster, they hose down the whole park every morning here, so the MDF swelled and rotted fast and big time.

I dont think the foam will hold up well with the heat in the park.

So are you folks going to take on the task of testing it for us?

Ron, the fence at the queue line for the Matterhorn Bobsled ride is under constant attack from the guests, the elements and the morning hosers. originally they were wood, then MDO, then MDF the last time (I think 2 years ago) and from the water sitting in the troughs and the daily bombardment they swelled and rotted. Now they're trying this stuff, and the paint is peeling even as we're painting them up. They probably used Imron to spray them grey, they seem to be sold on that stuff, at least we get to use One Shot for the colors. Yeah, we're giving it the old college try here, I wonder about strength, I bet they get leaned on and kicked in. The installers are anything but respectful of a fresh painted surface - we'll be touching them up for a week after they put them up. Grrrrrr.

Roger - What's "Vinyl"?

No, but seriously, folks, these are a complicated cut out job with a complicated, tedious pin stripe around the edges, not possible to use stickers - and anyplace where they can get a thumbnail under a vinyl edge of anything it's gone.

Just been wondering if anybody has had some of this stuff out in the weather.

Hey Mike, sounds like some stuff I just used and put up today. The brand name of this stuff I got is Ultraboard Plus. Its a 3/4" foam faced on both sides with PVC(sintra was what I was told). Gotta like the handling of it, nice and light to move around, and it cuts really easy. My application was all vinyl and it stuck extremely well, so I dont know about paint but it should act the same as most pvc products I assume. I was told to paint or cap the edges so the UV's dont attack the foam, so I put a standard plastic capping on them. Only shortfall I can see with it is that the lags I mounted it with may pull through in a heavy wind, I did use some big washers to prevent this from happening, but its an unknown to me at this point. I hope it dont, but they should only be up on the pole for a month, so crossing my fingers. Its just getting nice and hot here lately, so I will also find out about how rigid it remains and will report back any findings I come across. Its tough trying out a new thing, but somebody has to play guinea pig... guess that'll be me... 8)

Thanks, Tim, These have all got some fancy cutting on the edges so no capping. They DID coat them with Imron, the edges look like some got painted, some just got overspray and then we One-Shot'ed them. We'll see...
