Seems we all spend a lot of time complaining about computers and software and then complaining about the lack of, or inferior tech support that is available.
I am as guilty as any one else.
BUT today I had a pleasant experience.
I have been having an annoying little problem with my Fujitsu laptop almost from the day I bought it. I called the 800 tech support number. Only had to choose one option on the telephone keypad and I was talking to a REAL LIVE person!!!!
She asked about my problem....asked me to boot up the laptop and then walked me through a few simple diagnostics..... She pinpointed the problem accurately and the problem was solved within 10 minutes!
Anyone else got some good words for companies who do seem to appreciate and help their customers???

As a matter of fact, COUNT ME IN! I am very happy with Letterville. I wouldn't spend so much time on this site if I hadn't had the wonderful response from the great people out there. And, Steve and Barb handle the site with a real professional flair (keeping everything in tact and flowing.) I have always been contacted back in a very reasonable amount of time and with a human quality and personal touch. Now to me, that reflects a superior service that not too many companies offer. Besides, they take their personal time to try to meet everyone they possibly can. How many organizations or companies do that? And, ROGER! Thanks Rapid Tac! I recieved my samples today. (my son thought they were hand lotion or something. I am so glad he didn't try to gel his hair with them! They do smell good!) GREAT SERVICE, THANKS!

Dave have you every had a Dell? I've got 4 of them now for just that reason. I might add to that I haven't had to call them all that much either. I just got a new Demension 1.3 mhz 8100 and really love it! And I too have had a super day!!!!

Dell comes to mind, always helpful and responsive. Also Cadlink, very quick with technical help. Finally Grundy and Taylor, Inc.; those two "companies" always give good support here.

Happy camper here with that backup/mirror program I mentioned on another post. Ive been in touch with the guy from Greece that wrote it, with a wishlist and a couple of queries.(the beauty of dealing with small companies) A few emails later and he's explained my queries to a "T", explained in depth the inclusions in the new version and the pro's and con's, given a few tips to make everything run totally seemlessly... Hell, I'm even gunna PAY for a copy! Enjoy, David

I would add Cadlink/Signlab-- these folks have been great help with the rare problems I've had-- and, add their website as a source for downloading revisions to an already real good program, and I'd say they can't be beat. To add, I should include the folks at Ioline for making a darn near bulletproof plotter. 5 years of use and no problems. Regarding scrap vinyl--I sort mine by color and clip them together with good-sized spring clamps, add a small "s' hook to one handle and hang them up on a piece of clothesline strung along a beam in the cellar which doubles as the shop area. It saves a lot of time sorting if nothing else. One last thank-you goes to Microsoft; their website is great for downloading upgrades for drivers and Windows tweaks, patches, etc. ------------------ Bill Preston Fly Creek, N.Y. I have had fantastic support from Xerox - they sent a fuser unit for my copier overnight air for free under a 3-year warranty, and included the screwdriver I'd need.

Lexmark absolutely shocked me a few months ago- Had bought a Factory Refurbed Z22 printer from a mail-order dealer a few months earlier, with a 1 yr guarantee. Cost $29 plus shipping. I've run thousands of prints through it (original cartridge refilled with bulk ink - used almost 8oz of eack color so far! - dozens of color refills, and another dz black- very happy with it!!!)
Suddenly quit feeding. called the tech support people the next dayafter just 4-5 min on hold got a tech person who gave me a couple of items to check, the usual cables, power, etc. Then just said that he'd get a replacement out ASAP.
Well- next AM at 7 I get a call from Airborne Express asking if it was too early to deliver !!!
Is the product good -Yes Is that good support - YES YES YES!!!!!
They definitely lost money on that sale but got a long term fan from it

I'm happy. Just today I asked a question that I should have asked a long time ago. 19 minutes later Dave Grundy answered my question to the T. Dave I owe you a beer.
This board is a great source of knowledge, help and a pretty cool place to hang out.

I like to make a point of ringing people and telling them how happy I am with their product or service if I feel they have excelled. All to often we accept things and only grizzle if it's wrong. I love it when customers say how pleased they are when they pick up their signs. I'm Happy now because its the weekend and I won't be back till Monday!!

I am way happy with this site... and like my home state I haven't paid my bill and they keep letting me come back! (Ohhhh, baaaad joke- sorry to all the sensitive people. My new higher PG&E bill comes next month and I'm sure jokes like those will be harder for me to insult you with.)
And as a leading member of the procrastination club... of which I have yet to join, this site gives me a place to hang out with friends when I should be working over time. I don't do the bar scene and my "free" time is from 11pm to 3am. EVERYone's up at that hour here! I'm "normal" here and I am really happy about that!
I am happy with Airbrush Action- I got my back issues right away and I now have Antonelli's "how to" on flames! Now I CAN'T WAIT for the video- professional or home made... I don't care Mike.
I am happy that Dave started this thread on something positive~ Thanks Easter Bunny! Balk Balk! (another stupid commercial joke from the states)
Other great companies... Dell hands down, they make my life easier because they keep things running smoothly for my husband the I T guy (computer nerd) at his office with quality products and excellent service. PSS in Sacramento~ I don't get there often, but when I do they make me feel like a regular. Rapid Tac and Rodgers fearless posts... when I get my own site up and running I will post a picture of my first rig gig and me and my bottles of RT that got me through it! I will always be a fan of the daring duo at Frog Juice, they entertain me with their sense of humor and help me with anything I stumble on to... and BroFrog is just too kind for words! ALL the letterheads here at this site- the ornery ones and the innocent ones just the same! Without their help and time posting and calling those of us that are fresh off the turnip truck on some days we'd all be lost in the books and videos and piles of "oops! signs"
Just today... my local internet company, Innercite, is being really cool and donating web space for my first "all my design" web site for the local soccer kids. (Yes, I will be showing it off on the Portfolio table )
It is a good day! ...and it's officially FRIDAY now! Yippee!
The smiling side of the Moon
P.S. I am also happy we can edit our post and look slightly less stupid when we post "oops!" posts. Spell check!

A lot of people probably won't agree with this but...
I purchased Gerber software from Advantage Sign Supply in '93. I have had to use tech support only 4 times. Advantage has their own tech support. they have always solved the problem right away on an 800 number. The one time they could not solve the problem, THEY called Gerber, and Gerber called me within 15 minutes. Problem was solved in under an hour.
At the same time I purchased a Mimaki plotter, which I have never had to call tech support, and still today can run a 50 yard roll of vinyl through it without resetting the tracking.
Then, to top it off, I spent 2 days of last week standing in a man lift and PAINTING 2 10'x 60' logos on the side of a building.
Life is good.

Lots to be happy about down here in Florida. We're finally getting some much needed rain..and if by chance we start flooding, we have a new full size Montero so I won't get stalled in the middle of the flooded street like I did in my mini van. Speaking of the new Montero, the dealership's marketing dept. has called 4 times in the past two weeks to see how satisfied we are with it. My sick kitty is eating on her own now after 2 weeks of force feeding. I helped a mama cat deliver her kittens 2 days ago. The Nokia phone I got for Christmas stopped working (dropped it a few too many times) and they replaced it overnight delivery. Lost my ringtones, discovered most of the ringtone sites that send to your phone are gone, and was bummed, but a friend found a new site with some good ones. Finally, Dave Sherby helped me out by finding a header for the display booth I'm working on. THANK YOU AGAIN, DAVE! It should arrive today. All in all, a darn good week.

Dell, definately Dell. Bought a used Dell laptop off ebay and had enormous problems setting up the modem, ISP. Spent close to an hour on the phone with a wonderful tech support guy and it runs great. I had a little bit of a wait time to get him (few minutes) and he apologized. I am definately a Dell fan now.

Oh my, how could I forget? Todd at Sign Supply of Ky. He is great. I'm new to the business, so I don't have a lot of 'stock vinyl' yet. He jokes with me everytime I call. I had ordered some vinyl late on Friday and was told it probably wouldn't go out til Monday. Friday night, I discovered I needed a color I forgot to order. I called first thing Monday morning, he went back to shipping to see if my order had gone out, then I told hiw what size and color I wanted. I had no idea the stock# as I wasn't at my computer. "No problem" he said. I've asked about other products and he's honest with me about them, not just trying to sell the stuff. If it has drawbacks, he tells me. Now, if someone would just tell me what to do with all these vinyl scraps I can re-cut.... Chris
