I wish we all had as much passion for signs and good sign art as some of us have for stirring the pot to see what boils to the top in a salacious little world some people call art.
Now this is only my opinion and I will not be coming back to argue with anyone over it so here's how I see it...If you feel you must distribute "art" would it be too much to ask you to invite people to visit with you by e-mail and decide whether or not you have some thing in common ...and then trade links? Or would it be too embarassing discussing "art" on a one to one basis? In the mean time there are youngsters here looking for leadership and guidance, This board is sliding in a direction that I wouldn't want my kids to know I associate with it...and they are all grown with their own children.
I truly hope more "family value" Letterheads prevail here and I hope you post your feelings about it...This is not the place for "shock art" and it is insulting that anyone should think it is...sorry thats just the way I see it...Your turn!

I agree Monty. Controversial is one thing. Vulgar is another.
I wonder if Steve would let Hugh Hefner would be allowed to post a few pieces of what he considers "art" here. Afterall, if lighting and photographic technique are the only requirements, who cares what the subject matter is.

I will jump on the family value band wagon, but who sets the standard. Here in the USA our values have alway been a bit more prudish than in Europe, and so on. Not reading all 56 posts in Henry's thread I'm sure some people find the photo non offensive
Although I don't have any children reading this site, I was a bit taken back by the photo in Henry's post. From an Artist point of view it is as I see it ART.
Of course the rigid angle of the dangle leads into a different area of art but hey, to each his own.
You can find worse images on the net just doing a random search for shoe's or something as stupid as that.
Just my opinion

I agree with Monte that it is only common courtisey to be invited,or linked to a different forum for this type of "art" Just because it is what is all over Sweden/Europe,doesn't mean that it should be seen OR excepted other places.Even though 1 person may feel it is ok for them. That doesn't automaticly make it alright for everyone. That kind of thinking that what I feel is right,is the way it is! Was Hitlers way of thinking.

Here is the thing about this--ummmm piece of art.....I minored in Art history in College--so that makes me an authority, right?(lol) It is not the NUDITY that is offensive, not even the erection, nearly so much as the exhibitionist nature of the pose and expression of the subject. It is offensive and unsettling because it forces the viewer to become an unwitting voyuer.
please do not equate this or even compare it to Michaelangelo Buranate's DAVID ( I prefer Bernini's, myself)...there is no comparison other than both contain frontal male nudity.
If shock value and forcing the viewer into the mindset of the artist is ART, then this is that, but it sure as heck is not GOOD art.
I am a family values man to the core....

Controversial art? you want controversial? Alberto Vargas here ya go- http://www.vargasgirl.com/ This guy was doing it in the 30s- 40s and he was controversial then, what about now? Now? we got a guy thats as racy now as Alberto was then. http://hankukin1.com/Soroyama/nudes1.html now as you can see in the web adress these are nudes, but cannot be described as anything but ART! what is controversial is the ARTIST! I look at Albertos work from the 30's and think, whats wrong with that? answer: nothing, now. back then, it was extremely racy. So the old saying holds true: "Art is in the eye of the beholder"

Also, I see there's over 60 replies to that particular thread. You know every time you post a reply that thread remains visible. If you have preferences set to only a couple days, then if no one replies within those couple days, then it will disappear. It'll still be there, unless Steve removes it, but not to you.
In other words, just DON'T submit anymore replies to it! It takes too much time to load that many replies anyway so unless you like waiting forever for threads to load, just ignore it.

I agree with much of what you say Monte. We've spent enough time together for you to know us pretty well. After much thought about who made the post and his intentions, I made a decision to let this one go. This by no means indicates that anything goes.
Speaking of education...children are becoming more aware of the injustices in this world.
My daughter was really upset by the student shootings and the controversies around teachers breaking rules the students were expected to abide by.
She had gotten so disgusted, she had made up her mind it was useless to do anything about it. She really blew up one day and I said, "Honey, I know it's not a perfect world. Yelling isn't going to do anything. Why don't you sit down some place and write down what it would look like if things were better. Then you can decide what you can do to bring this about."
Twenty minutes later, I received her back into my office and listened proudly as she read her commitment. Not only did she feel better, getting some things off her chest...she has managed to stick to her belief and keep her nose clean and lay her head down in peace at night. She's not fighting herself anymore. She can smile in her mirror.
That's one less skinwalker with a weapon.
