I will start working on a sandblasted project this week for a 44" by 40" sign, two sided, hanging. I will be using 1" thick HDU, with two sided mdo in between. What is the best type glue to use for this? Also, from advice from friends on this board, I will be installing steel straps through the middle of the sign for strength. Good ol Dave Sherby called me awhile back on this project, and he had some good advice. I know the company has it's choice of glue, but what do you recommend I use? ALso, what would be the best thing to use to seal the edge of the sign. All advice appreciated.

Well, although I bought it but havent had the chance to use it, my good friend & ol' boatman tells me West Systems epoxy is the way to go for sealing edges. Good luck!

ditto on the West System. Also in talking with PB about gluing any substrate to HDU, they told me that to use West System was fine, but to cover the entire back (I was rolling a thin coat on both surfaces) was over kill. Actually to accomadate a little expansion / contaction, they recommended gluing 3 inch strips, 6 inches apart.
SO, I would rough up the surface of the raw MDO, take a scratch awl and score the HDU, clean off the HDU dust THOROUGHLY, and spread a thin coat of West System on both surfaces as stated above.
Work quickly as a large volume of epoxy in a container sets up FAST!!! I always lay out my boards, and as soon as the epoxy is mixed, I pour out healthy sized beads onto my gluing points to get the mass of epoxy reduced quickly. Now you'll have some working time to spread the epoxy with a 3 inch roller.
