Ok..I found all the help files I needed to help me figure out how to set up and export letters as a True Type font from CorelDraw9. I followed everything correctly, I believe.
I set up a seperate page for each letter. exported each one as a true type font file and all of them under the same "family" name. I assigned the correct numerical code to each one) I then installed the font with ATM. However, when I type in a word like "Dave" and select that particular font all I get is "aaaa".
I undestand that the first letter exported is assigned as the default letter and will be used if a particular character is not created and exported as part of the font. But in this case I exported every letter of the alphabet.
Any Corel users that have done this and can tell me what I am doing wrong?

This is the edited part after I figured out what I was doing wrong.
When exporting each letter I was assigning a seperate filename. "a.tt" for "a", b.ttf for "b" etc. It turns out I should have been using the same filename and then the export filter automatically udates the file to include each additional character! (and automatically advances the to the next character code number.)
NOW I have it figured out, the next thing to do is modify the kerning. THAT should be good for another 3 or 4 hours of playing around! the first font i made in corel was a single stroke alphabet for the router the kerning was horrid, and of course i was gunna fix it one day and never did! the next one i made was a stencil alphabet... again for router, simple single stroke style just with way less tabs to slow things down. i got the kerning right but the lower case letters wouldnt come out on the screen... oops cant have open shapes in tt fonts huh?
it is a simple thing that after not much time you can do with your eyes closed (just the way i like to spend my days)
i have a workspace set up for making fonts in corel and small reminders everywhere about the simple things that can drive ya nuts till you trip over em and remember what ya were suposed to do (and in what order) in the first place
i guess its all a learning curve eh
goodluck with your adventure appi

Thanks Gail!...I am only doing this because I want to prove to myself that I can do it!
Then once I prove to myself I can do it...maybe I'll get into the font creation game and make the REALLY big bux!!!!!
NAW! I think I'll stick to doing what I do best... "stickin sticky stuff to valuable vessels and vehicles"!!!
NO!!!!!!!! I just realised..I could make a video.... "HOW TO MAKE A MILLION IN SIGNMAKING" everything from making your own fonts, to how to cut vinyl without needing a signmaking program, to how to apply vinyl without having to borrow your wife's dish detergent!
Golly..the possibilities are endless!!!!! I could actually produce a whole series of videos!!!!!!!
NO!!!!!!..not just videos...CD's too!!!!!
WOW I can see retirement comin on soon!
(just ramblin' and havin' fun folks!!!!!)

Do you get the Auto Art Magazine from Bob Bond? They have an article in vol. 2.9 (Nov\Dec.) and vol. 3.10 (Jan\Feb) issues. or visit the web site www.autoartmagazine.com. It is written by Michael Gene Adkins (The Fontry) in Watts, OK. maybe that article will help ya!

Dave, the first font I created was from my old signmaker fonts, I imported into composer, converted to graphics and exported through corel 1.1 into a new computer that had corel 5. I still use that font, and the kerning is still off, but in my opinion, all of the kerning needs a little tweaking anyway.I hardly ever do a layout that I don't have to take the space out of the I's and w's and M's and 1's. Bill..I did re-kern the font and it looks a lot better, but ya just can't do the kerning so that it is acceptable in every letter combination. I just did it so it looked right in a typed alphabetical order.
Maybe there are some "tricks" I'm going to have to research/learn before I start production on the first video!!!!!!! hahahahaha
