In terms of using corel for sign design would version 9 be a big step up from 8 and what about 10 is it worth the buy. Have many of you gone for 10 and are you pleased with it. And what differences have you noticed from 8 to either 9 oe 10.

Miles..I went from 8 to 9 for one specific reason. The "Artistic Media" tool. Version 9 has a few improvements over 8, such as "remembering" rotation angles. The contour feature, however, is a step backwards in that it doesn't contour as accurately as version 8. All in all, I don't think that the upgrade from 8 to 9 was really necessary. I also noticed that ver 9 is slower than ver 8. (on an 800mhtz processor with 256 meg of RAM) I haven't really considered version 10 as of yet. Maybe in the next couple of months.

i like 9 i bought it cause the upgrade offered a few extra thingies for digital printing and i have a pc60 i havent decided on 10 yet lots of ppl have complained about the changes that corel made to the layout of things from 8 to 9 (me included) but after a while i realised that 9 was much more comfortable to use and as dave says the artistic media tool is fun to play with
the pen tools (i have a wacom tablet)are also fun to play with but even without a pen u can still get great effects with this thingie... try the up n down arrows while drawing with the presure tool and see what i mean
i havent had the 'slow' problem that dave speaks off but agree that 9's contor feature is suckie, just get used to ctrl, shift Q and you wont have a problem
the file sizes are smaller i have noticed... sufin to do with the compression i guess
and one biggie for me sending shapes to a router is the trace actually works!!!! hip...hip...horay!!! hehehe
9 feels smoother nowdays when i have to go back to 8 for any reason (on other ppls machines) and the spacebar thingie doesnt work the same... u know taking u back to the last tool u used... or that could be just me im all fingers to thumbs sumdays
anyhoo thats bout it i guess
what ever u decide 8 works so i guess u dont have to hurry with it eh?
regards gail

I have a 8 at work which I use all day long. A copy of 8 in my shop at home which gets used a fair amount and a copy of 9 in the house which I bought a couple months ago. Using 8 so much has made it hard to get the hang of 9. 9's trace capabilities are a huge improvement over 8 and I agree that 9's contour feature needs some help. Trace is really why I bought 9 so I guess for that reason it was worth it even if I have to auto trace in the house. For me hand tracing still gives the best result but at times Trace 9 is very acceptable.
Hope I got my 8's and 9's straight...

I use 10, would not use anything less. The Fly out tool for many shapes are the best and easy to modify. Saves lots of time and is very fun to work. I use it with 550mhz NT4 and also with a 850mhz MS2000 with no problems. 32 bit operating system is the ticket with Corel and the fuel to make it so fast is the memory with a SCSI hard drive.

We use 7 in the store and I have 10 at the house. Those of you who are serious artists may get some benefit out of the higher numbers, but 7 does everything that needs to be done at the store. We have not plans to upgrade the store. Vic G

I always seem to buy every other version, I have 9, I haven't even used 1/3rd of it's capabilities, I never seem to read ALL of the manual, so I geuss unless I ave another $200 burning a hole in my pocket I'll stay with 9
So Miles, in an atempt to answer your question without owning version 10, I'd sy you would probably benefit by buying 10 over 9, I now the difference between 7 & 9 was minimal but refreshing none the less.

You guys need to buy every version, We need to keep corel in business! I have been using corel since 1.1 I have purchased 2-3-4-5 with some free upgrades between, 5 was so good that I skipped 6 and 7, then I got 8 and 9 and will probably get 10. I have never felt cheated from any of the upgrades. 9 is really neat, but like Dave the contour changes were not accepted very well by my crew. They are still using 8 for that job. Sometimes when I import a file like a wmf it shows it as a bitmap, but it is actually a vector file. I have found a workaround by exporting as a cmx and then re-importing it back into corel, then it shows it as a vector file in wireframe. Bill

I might just download it and try it out on my laptop. I don't know if installing it, even in a "different than default" directory will have any impact on version 9 or if it's removal would affect version 9.
Anyway, it is there for anyone who wants to give it a trial run.

I have purchased 10 and I am using both. The one nice feature that Corel 10 comes with is the new Corel ARM (Assist Recovery Method) which I have had to use until they come out with the first service pack. Once they come out with the fixes I would highly recommend purchasing it. The annimation tool I use for webdesign is great!(CorelRAVE)
