I had a real treat this morning! Si Allen & myself drove up to LA Trade Tech to meet the students and Ralph "Doc" Guthrie.
We can all rest assured students in this class are getting the finest training possible. When we arrived, first semister students were practising their brush skills, while second and third semister students worked on a sketch design project.
Doc invited us to sit in as the sketches were critiqued. It was educational and fun to boot! It was hard to restrain myself from jumping into the discussion. This was good stuff!
Our time with Doc and his tribe of aspiring Letterheads was over before I knew it. The course hours are 7am-12noon and we had to get our rental car back.
I want to thank Doc and his students for welcoming us into his classroom. Whenever we return to this area, LA Trade will be one of my first stops.

Hey, I'm glad you made it to see "DOC" He is always in a good mood it seems like. This is the last of the apprentice programs in Calif. that I know of. We had on ehere in Sac. for awhile but it fizzeled out. Doc, is the right guy for the job too. The crew that he brought with him to Percels place were well behaved and well received.

I met Doc and some of is students at Micro-Meet III last fall. It's really great to know that our trade is being perpetuated by people like Doc. His students were really dedidicated and it's encouraging to see that there are going to be some really skilled next-generation Letterheads coming along under his tutership. Thumbs up and five stars for Doc Guthrie, LA Trade Tech and their sign program.

Yes Doc is a "class act" (pun not intended). Everytime I run into Doc he has nothing but enthusiasm for not only our industry but for these talented "up and coming" youth he had guided over the years. His brother Don has a good size sign business here in Northern Cal as well. Doc also puts on Demos here at some of the West Coast Meets. He always has the right "mindset",...a true Letterhead.
