I must do some sign sketches illustrating neon, using Corel !). I've done the tube with 2 colored line widths and blended. How di I do the perimeter glow? Thanks for the replys.......Roger C.

You might need a crash course in photopaint or photoshop. I cant think of any other way to get close to illustrating neon digitally. Good luck, David

Roger, I can't give you an answer to doing the whole project digitally, but I'm sure there must be some way.
What I have always done is to draw the neon tubes in white ink on black illustration board or a black background and then airbrush the color over the white lines. Makes the neon a bright color and colored glow line around it on the black.

Duplicate the outside perimeter of your tubes and send the duplicate to the back. Then start to drag an interactive drop shadow from it, and let go before you're actually moving the shadow to an angle. The shadow should give you a halo effect when it it still centred on the original object. Change the colour of the shadow to suit the colour of neon. I usually play around with the opacity and feathering values to achieve the look that I want. I also duplicate the shadow and change the values to make it even more vibrant. Here's an example:
