We use pnuematic air bars to stretch our screens ... the kind that are funky bike tubes in alum. boxes.
They are-
Power-Grip Stretch Air Bars
American Screen Process Eqip. Co.
Chicago 60622

(yes I tried searching them)
The bars are at least 20 yrs old, blew a tube about 5 years ago and got one from ATW ... Blew one last week and called ATW again (no call back) ... called again today and they lost thier supplier for the tubes ... but are getting close to finding someone who can make them.

Anybody know where I can find tubes for screen stretching air bars???

How about repairing the tube? If it's the same type of material as a bike tube you might be able to patch it up to at least get you by.

How about just buying a larger Daiamond-Chase "roller frame". Place smaller frame under large, glue and trim. I know people who do it this way successfully.

Mark,

Not sure if this helps, but you might try Martin Supply/Lambert Co. right in Baltimore.

Martin Supply

It's been a few years since I've worked with those screens and not sure if they still have them. Good luck.

Mike, the valve stem ripped out of the tube [Frown]

Rich, I have few re-tensionables and will do that if I'm hard up for small screens.

The bar blew while stretching a 3'x4' frame for our main workhorse clamshell ... can fit a 60"x80" on exposure unit ... use many that size ... use a few 5'x10' (those are a &^#$@# to stretch, no way around it)

Ray, I will call them today (thanks) ... then start working my way through all the suppliers in the back of the trade rags.

Mark,

You can get rubber coated valve stems at auto parts stores, you might be able to bond one into thhe tube with a repair kit/patch... if nothing else it might get you by in a pinch, until you can get a source.. no sense in being out of commission with jobs backing up if you can get a quick fix for under $5.

Mark I also use the stretch air bar system, someone told me recently that if you get a (I think they said british) bike intertube that will work. NOTE: it must be an intertube with a metal valve stem. Good Luck.
