Hi Heads....
Check out this letter that Bill wrote.
www.livinggoldpress.com
I have had the pleasure of painting with and being mentored by this humble man who is eloquent yet slightly left-of-center. His nickname is "Bzrk" for good reason...he likes to shake the scaffold when you're way high up. You may remember him from Mars. He designed and led the Foodland Mural.
Love- JILL

Thanks Jill, that was great. I love ghost signs. The stories these "Old Timers" can tell!

Jill, you have a special friend in Bill. He was so kind to send me a letter of thanks for working on his magnificent mural in Mars. He also sent pictures because he had to finish it after we all left. The food market really lucked out.

Hi Bill...
Hey, what can I say? I think guys named Bill are cool. Yourself included!
I am lucky to know Bill Berberich. We finished the colored-in panel on the Foodland together. I got to do the celery and the mushrooms. The grapes Bill painted look so fresh and juicy...the steak looks ready for the grill...and the plastic bag on his bread is incredible. His blending is so smooth it looks as if it came out of an airbrush, but he used fitches.
He & his Mrs. Cathy come and see me quite a bit. I love them both.
Love you too
JILL

At the end of the article, you can go back to Ghost Signs. I went there thinking it may mention a book by the same name. Not so.

So, Ghost Signs: Brick Wall Signs in America, published by ST Publications Inc. (Signs of the Times), in 1989.

ISBN: 0-911380-84-1

A great book of photos and words by a non sign person who is very sign sympathetic, if I may say so.

I looked for it at www.abebooks.com, a great source for out of print books, no luck. Possibly ST Publications would know where some are?

John,
Amazon.com had one new copy, 4 used, and more new ones on the way. I have it, its a neat book. On Labor Day I took some pics of three old wall signs that were uncovered in Seattle. I will try to post the pics here-been meaning to do it before.
