Hi there
Desire some input on where digital printing technology is heading.
Considering Gerber edge 2, but is this the right choice as ink jet printing seems to be coming on quickly and is the field where the innovation is going on.
Shop has become sign based though still with the ability to do screen and offset printing, much of which is now brokered out. In a industrial city of approx 25k and expanding.
Would require the printer mainly for signage, stickers and also would be considering fridge magnets, plastic cards and t-shirts.
ANy advice much appreciated

Kerry,

I don't know if you can get a used Edge (thats what I did) but it will do everything you asked. It seems the inkjets need special media and of limited types. The edge is the most versitle of the bunch (IMO) being able to print on magnetic, vinyl, lexan, etc. I debated myself over which to purchase but in the end got an edge. My 2 cents, best of luck on your decision.

Where's DIGITAL heading?.....INKJET! There's many different formats available TODAY, but it's all gonna be INKJET before too long.

inkjet can do a lot of things, but the things you mentioned (basic signage, stickers, reefer mags)are still done best by the edge IMO. Large format stuff & auto wraps, or indoor posters & banners seem to be good uses for the inkjet technology, but I'm not really staying all that caught up on the new technology, so I'll be watching to see what others say. I used to do screenprinting as well as subbing out some screenprinting... I do so much of that type of work very profitably on the edge 2
