I have been operating Adobe Photoshop in Win 95 and things went well. When I upgraded my computer to Win ME O/S, and I try to open a jpg file in PS my mouse freezes and I have to shut down. I can open up the jpg files from Flexi, but I can't from PS to do any editing, etc.

I am prepared to update Photoshop but I don't know what to update it to. Can anyone inform me.

I am not prepared to go to an XP computer right now...will have to get he big update with $$Flexi...and not ready, yet. Just had my computer re-vamped to a new, larger hard drive, etc, etc.

Would certainly appreciate some advice from some of you, oh so helpful, dear folk.

Thanks.

PS: I have tried to get some help from the PSsite...they have a forum there, also. By phone, it takes ages. I'll try again, though.

Bernice,

Unfortunately the most likely culprit is the ME operating system, it's quite troublesome. Having the proper driver files (for the mouse, video and Photoshop etc.) is imperative when using Windows ME.

The current version of Photoshop is 7.0 but there is a new CS version coming soon. You may be able to buy a legal 6.0 version on EBay or some other auction site at a fairly decent price. Check amazon.com too.

Version 6 and higher should have proper drivers available for Windows ME.

Good luck!

Bernice,

I have a legal upgrade of 6.0 if your interested, I'm not using it so make me an offer. It will use your old serial number to activate it.

Windows ME is quite possibly the worst os I have ever used in my life. It froze my computer constantly. So much so that Dell upgraded me at no charge....no problems since then, (1 1/2 yrs). I'm glad you have good luck, Mike. I wouldn't use ME on a bet!

Rick, yep I've been lucking out with ME, I haven't had any problems with it thus far. I had actually planned on wiping this system clean when I received it (Me was pre-installed on this laptop) and going with another OS, but decided to at least test it out first, and so far it's been solid.

Note: My statements here should NOT be construed as me actually having faith in a Microsoft product, because I don't have faith in any of them. [Smile]

I personally would get ride of ME and go XP or 98 SE and you should upgrade your photoshop to seven or CS it is now out.

As for your Flexi it might be in your best interest to just buy a second PC and use Flexi on the old one. Computers are cheap now adays.

PhotoShop 2.5, on floppies? you'll really notice major improvements in PhotoSop since then. try to move up to the most current operating system Win XP (with most current patches) and go with any PhotoShop after 5.5. lots of RAM is a good idea as well. as was mentioned, computing power is extremly cheap these days.
