Hi everyone!

I've got a disk full of plt files from a client and can't open them. Those files are from his former sign guy (he closed the shop).

From what i see the files are in binary mode.
The only way to see the content would be to send the file directly to the plotter without knowing the overall size of the plot.
My sign program(winPC sign) can't import them and I don't know in which prog. they were made in the first place.

Can someone out there point me the direction to open/convert those files?

If you want sample files:
http://www.mlink.net/~scripsit/FTP/

Thanks!

Our Gerber software generates PLT files. May not be the same format as what you have, but if you want to email me one I'll see if I can open it. If so, perhaps I can export them in a format you can use. Send to edgework@istar.ca and I'll try it for you.

That is a HPGL plot file format. Hewlet Packard Graphics Language. I have Corel 7 and it has a plt import filter. You could import it into Corel and export as something you can read in your sign program.

Hi Elaine. I tried opening the sample files and they do definately open in Gerber Graphic Advantage 6.21 The largest of the samples that you've posted is 2 feet x 3 feet high, but almost everything else is small. The one "Bomag" file is a decal that's small, but has a lot of detail, and is in 2 colours. From the size, I'd think that it was an Edge job file.

If you need help in converting any of these, e-mail me the file, and I can export EPS or AI files back to you. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the quick response!

Thanks Diane, Christian, Jim and Ken

Ken, I sure could use the files if you can convert them (if it's not too time consuming)... I'll e-mail you for details!
I can use eps or ai files.

Jim, you are right PLT it is some HPGL language...but the files are in a binary mode corel can't import them at all...I did try with all kind of filters...seems that only gerber can do it!!!

Have a nice day!
