well I've had the upgrade for just a week but so far very pleased with the new tools, of course my experience with software tells me this opinion is open to change at any given moment hahaha.
Just the ability to lock an image is refreshing.
But the big G still has a long road to go!!

I've had my upgrade for over a month and it is still in the box. One of these days I'll get around to loading it up...with help from Bob Gilliland. It's always nice to have a friendly geek around to help you over the rough spots.
There are some really great new features that I'm anxious to try out.

Damn, I was planning to call Bob when I dust off my 2.0 upgrade box that's been sitting around a month or two. I was hoping no one else thought of that so it would seem like a friendly innocent phone call with an "oh, by the way" tech support question.

Well I'm glad I'm in good company. I got mine a week or so ago and it's collecting a little dust itself. Of course I need to swap out HD's before I can install it as my current drive is full. Another day...

How much did that upgrade cost in the states? I don't think it's available in Canada yet. It does sound like it has some really nice new features. I'm looking forward to trying it.
You should pay more attention at the Impact shows. This way I could be asking you for answers! I’m here when you make the plunge.
Doug,
As mentioned on the other web site, I’m really hoping to hold a seminar real close to you. If it does happen, I’ll offer a very, very attractive one day “on-site” rate. Stay tuned.
Bevin,
List price is $369.00 for a single seat upgrade.

Funny you should mention that Bob, I am offering a very attractive vacation rental day-rate in the beautiful Kahului Industrial Park Warehouse, with sunrise views out the roll-up bay door overlooking the scenic urban run-off canal.

well I thought I'd share another find, although I cannot take credit for it, Bob G. called me today with some exciting news, One of the tools I fell in love with was the free form drawing pencil, I just had hoped it had tablet support, well to my surprise Bob tested it and confirmed it Omega does support drawing tablets.
Well Wacom at least for Bob has an intuos and I have a graphire. This is an awesome find for us individuals who like to color outside the lines.

My copy is still in the box, but to my knowledge Omega still does not support layers, but does offer the ability to lock items as of the 2.0 release. Not as handy as layers, but for some uses, it is a step in that direction IMO.

How can you guys let brand new software that's been paid for just sit in the box?
I installed my Omega 2.0 upgrade the same day it came - and we're busier than busy. I guess it boils down to priorities.
So far, I'm very happy with the upgrade. The ability to edit text after copy /paste is worth the upgrade price to me. The import filters are different--and I'm assuming they are better - more options for Adobe Illustrator.

Oy-Vey-Mega 2.0 still in the box? Hmmm!! Very, very interesting. After my experiences with "O"1.5xx, I can understand why "the box" just may be the perfect place for it. But, then again...I could be wrong.

this is funny...i have omega myself since jan 1 2000. it is by far the clunkiest most worthless program i've ever used. except for outlines, which it does well with a minimum of nodes. I'd have been better off with co-cut, since thats about all i use it for. I'd never invest anything in the upgrade since I thought the original was such a pathetic attempt at software, which was lightyears behind everything else I've ever used, they'd never catch up. I know we're supposed to keep our opinions about product nice...but i've said it before....useless...crap....lol

Omega may be clunky and does not have all the bells and wistles other products have, But I know it!
I also know the program very well, not as good as others but well enough to make a living. To learn a totally different program would be costly not to mention it runs the edge. If your vinyl cutting then Corel is fine for you.
They may never catch up but does the software make signs or do you.
I was once told by an old timer, an experienced brush man can make any brush work.
same applies with software!
its a tool, how you use it reflects on your abilities.

i guess i was so cheesed at omega because i had used what i thought to be comparable programs before...casmate...flexi...corel...plus...it's gerber, so it's got to be good. talked to the rep, assured it was the shizznit. asked if they made the plotter, "Sure, and we stand behind it!" Ha! had to threaten to bring the plotter to the big show in nawlins in a red rider wagon if they didn't replace this 6 month old lemon (after inumerable service calls, tech calls, and worthless help from our local sales rep...before they would take care of the mutoh junk we got, and replace it with a machine that actually worked. They also blamed operator error, and when the tech finally got here and hooked up his computer and his software it did the same thing. Hell, it still stops in the middle of a plot.......and never starts again...lol. Buggy stuff. Just always felt misled on this product, which has completely soured me on the gerber name. If you put a gun to my head, sure, I can use it. But it wasn't near what we were told it was, and with the additional hardware problems i think you understand my previous post a little better.

John looks like you ought to be more cheesed at the salesman who sold you that. I almost bought a Muto as well but my salesman luckily told us it was made by Muto, and I'm with you if Gerber had made it I would have bought it.

Helloooo are we talking about "gerber" omega? That's the only one I know of. I still have G.A., and wonder what is the dif except for the fact that Omega opens more files. Does it have less nodes? I am just learning corel and digitizing, still very new to that. Doug, that doesn't mean we have to ride in a crate do we?

The Mutoh was the best plotter on the market when it came out. Gerber realized that and that's why they slapped their name on it. Sure, there's better machines now, but back then it was top dog. And yes, I've used probably every brand. You still don't see a plotter that will go back and grab whatever blade that it's instructed to use. Maybe you got a bad machine. Ask around and find how many people got bad Roland PC-60's. Every manufacturer sends out lemons now and then, doesn't mean they were all bad. I can guarantee some bad Gerber 4b's went out back in the day, did you hear about it? nope, because there wasn't an internet to complain about it on. I used the Mutoh for about 3 years at my former employer and it's still the only plotter they use day in and day out. It's probably been 7 or 8 years now. Never been in for service and has only needed blades.

Omega by itself is morphadite, but has much improved with 2.0 We always use it interchangably with Illustrator. I have two functioning 2.0's going now, and couldn't be more pleased.
Alot of our satisfaction is from an awesome tech support team @ Advantage Sign Supply, as well as a helpful sales rep, We really love the demo mode for sales. The spot to spot is great. New edit mode is nice. Also, way cool that pasted text can be edited now. So, open your software, and load it up! Hopefully it will go better than it did for Doug in a previous post. Just load it when tech support is available.
For all the Omega bashers, I just can't relate. I used Flexi for two years. I suffered through the Amiable buy out with 8 day response time from tech support.....no thanks, I'll stick with Gerber!
