My family and I are thinking of heading to orlando, kissimmee florida next month, and I was wondering what the best route to take would be. Presently figure on taking I-75 south to the florida turnpike. Any ideas from travelers out there?

When are you guys heading down? I'm only about 40 minutes from Orlando. Maybe we can get together for dinner or something.
I believe if you take I-75 and then the turnpike you can take the turnpike to I-4 somewhere in Orlando then you can start looking for signs for Disney World. That'll take you in the direction of Kissimmee.

Yes John..I-75 is the route to take. When you are traveling thru south Georgia...get off I-75 at Tifton,Georgia and go west 40 miles on Hwy 82 to Albany,Georgia. :)Then you can come by and visit me and Roger if you have time! E-mail me if you can stop by for a visit. I found an alternative route along the east coast(via US 19 and I-95)...but it's only 14 miles shorter. You'll probably make better time on I-75 tho. Hope you have a great trip and get to visit a lot of southern Letterheads. Judy

When are you coming down John? I'm outta town from the 11th to the 21st, but if your in the area, look me up if I'm here. I'm 45 minutes east of Kissimmee/Disney World area. The Kennedy Space center is about halfway between myself and Amy (a really great attraction). Also, John Smith is in this neck of the woods as well. If the timing works, you could have a Letterhead day!
Wish you fun...

yep...... the way my travel schedule has been lately... I am either in Cape Canaveral or Winter Garden every weekend !!! But.. from my direction, I am a I-95 and I-4 freak. But,, for the relaxing and scenic drive, I go thru the middle of the state, up 19 & 17 thru the Ocala and Salt Springs route. Very pretty scenery if you have the time. No matter what you choose, have fun and be safe!!! And, maybe a few of us can pull off an awesome lunch at Sonny's BBQ or something !!!

THanks for all the info y'all. We are still working on the date we will be leaving, probably near the end of the month. My son has all the plans laid out. Disneyworld, Disneys animal adventures, Epcot, Universal Studios, and Kennedy Space Center. Whewwwww! Should have some time in the evenings for a head meet though. Everyone Ive talked to here that travels that way goes I-75, but says dont go through Atlanta. Most take the 285 bypass. We would be going through there on a sunday, so maybe it wont be so bad. Thanks again.

The last 4 times that I have been through there, I have gone straight through Atlanta, and actually made better time than on the by-pass.
There's a lot of traffic, but there's a lot of lanes too. The speed limit drops to 55 in town, so I just got in one of the center lanes, set the cruise on 80, and let them pass me on both sides.

Most parks stay open past your bedtime, except for Animal Kindom.
The rest of the time you will be stuck in traffic and too exhusted to think straight, let alone finding Letterhead friends.
Been there, done that, and I have two kids in the Orlando area, One is working at Animal Kingdom on Picante Trail ( where the gorillas are ) so say hi if you see her and TELL HERE TO WRITE!
