Ya know, when I found this website and this group of seemingly incredibly talented people I was so completely jazzed. But I have been following along and I guess I just don't have a sense of humor or maybe it is just because so many of you have met each other -- I never know when to take someone seriously or when they are kidding.
Go figure. As a child I was told I should be a stand-up comic. Maybe that is because my delivery is good...and afterall, there would be scripts....I wouldn't actually have to ad-lib....
I think you are a great bunch. I am such a newbie, with only 5 years of signs under my belt and I have learned so much here. Thanks everyone...just one thing...before a joke could you just....like....say...(kidding)? Hmmm...guess that wouldn't work, would it?
Okay. I'll just hang in there and make a complete fool of myself (tis good for the ego--or so they say). But really, did want to thank everyone for the information and support you give each other and how much can be learned here.
I think you're all just terrific.

I think I am terrific, too. I am, however, not as terrific as my lovely wife, Dana. She's Minnesota Nice and I am New York Attitude... Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

There's innocent misunderstandings, professional differences of opinion, and downright crudenes. The first two are easy to manage. Creative people in general are a big-headed yet fragile-ego'd, sensitive lot, and it's pretty hard on a bulletin board to have everything you say taken exactly how you meant it. Plenty of rows are started when something is misinterpreted, then reacted to with a backlash.
Both parties have a responsibility to check their intentions and their wording. A lot of times a call for clarification or a personal email to the perceived attacker would clear the air. Even if two personalities decide to duke it out in the forum, a little respect does wonders. Trying to overpower, intimidate, shame, or belittle will escalate the problem every time.
But you're right about the joking and ribbing here Dane...a lot of these folks have met in person numerous times. There's inside jokes between just those two, or between the more senior members who have shared some BB history (Like the recent "I am Sam" clash - references to that will be conming up for a looong time). I think there's a whole lot more direct, constructive support going on than sideways comments. If you're ever in doubt, ask.
