Over the years, many customers ask me "How soon can I wax it?" when they pick up their motorcycle, van or car.

I usually tell them it'll be okay to wax in a couple of days and suggest "Pledge" furniture polish. As off the wall as that may sound, I noticed truck drivers using it on their rigs at the local truck stop. (The lemon scent got my attention...lol)
It's not a harsh wax and you don't have to buff it much, it dries clear along any moldings or trims, takes a little dust off with it, and doesn't hurt the paint (usually One Shot).

Just a little tip for the day.

Hey Ray, I'm just curious, I assume yer talkin' 'bout werk that's not clear coated...(duh, Sheila, who'd wax a new clear?) 'round here I tell 'em don't wax or run thru the auto car wash OR otherwise use water or hand pressure on this for a month! If it gets really dirty you can hand wash it gentle like . . . this goes for anything, vinyl, auto' paint and oneshot which dries to touch an' even mask over, but COULD be damaged with too much pressure. But basically I say this to cover me 'cause sum o'these cabbies an' others go HAYWIRE with wax an' all. I'm just sayin' 2 days seems like a short time iz'all. [Smile]

Just an observation.."Pledge" is furniture wax..furniture usually stays indoors...car or vehicle wax is just that, it is for vehicles that stay outdoors...why would anyone advise folks to wax their vehicles with furniture polish??

I may be way off base here but it doesn't make sense to me?????

i also have told people to do the "pledge" thing to jobs i have painted. reason being a little wax.....of any kind is better then none!!!! wax is wax be it furniture or automobile. yes the automobile/boat wax is a lot better for longevity but if you hit a car with with PLEDGE once a week..you done the same thing if youdid car wax once a month. also most people are friggin lazy...and you tell em to put a coat of wax on some one shot sign paint about a month after its been on there....PLEDGE is the easy thing to do, but now adays ther are some car waxes just as easy.

I always tell my customers to treat new painted lettering/striping like a new paint job. No high pressure/brushes for a couple of weeks. But they can gently wash their vehicle after a couple of days if needed. No automotive wax for 2 weeks. And hey, I have been using furniture wax on my own personal vehicles since I was 16. It's not as withstanding as automotive wax, but if ya just want to shine up your ride for crusing down the boulavard, it's works great.

well folks...

Here one for you..
My get away car is a Saturn.
Lettering and Graphics all over it.

I was polishing with normal car wax until one day the brain kicked in.
I use a polish called Novas for plastic facias (Most suppliers will carry it or something close to)
and seeing how this car is made with Polymer panels I thought I give it a try.

Well telling you that it picked up a shine like you wouldn't believe!
Not only the car but the Digital Prints,Vinyls,Pinstriping,One-Shot

My neighbour just bought a new Saturn and was watching myself do this...Next thing she asked was if I can pick some up for her as well..

Try it on your prints or vinyl after you have applied them and see the difference.
But don't use before application.

I've used this stuff for a few years on cars and bikes.
www.dri-wash.com
It's a waterless wash/polish that you can actually spray over light dirt and not scratch the paint. It has a patented pump bottle that atomizes the spray as it goes on...takes very little (a few oz.) to do a whole vehicle. Goes on and wipes off easy and doesn't build up like wax or silicone even if you use it daily. I get mine from a local distributor.

There's a one man contractor here in town who has been driving the same shop van for years.

He washes the van every week and then rubs it down with - are you ready for this? - Wesson Oil.

As crazy as it sounds, his truck always looks great. Vic G

If you are going over Fresh Uro
Zaino can be put on in a few days.
I use it on the Car parts we do.
It works nice.. The paint needs to breath
for a few months to fully cure with most new auto paints.

Dave,
Actullay an Old wood worker taught me to use Simonize Wax(Paste) on furniture. (Before the days of polyurethane) It works great as it repels water an protects the wood fantastic and doesn't change the color of the wood. I use it alot on Mahogony and Black Walnut.

Sheila...

I do reccomend this when the job's not clearcoated. Once the customer finds out how fast and easy it is, they get into the habit of keeping the vehicle waxed frequently. It also keeps One Shot paints from oxidzing if they have been thinned out a bit.

Horror story from the distant past....
Back in 1959, my Grandmother decided to wax my Dad's Black Dodge for him as a surprise. Unfortunately, Dad came home to a four wheeled oil slick. Grandma had used a floor wax!

eeeeewwwwwwww!

Old school, right OP?

hah-HAH!, boy this was int'erstin' Ray! Victor, I gotta 'fess up....I've used cookin' oil once 'r twice to perk up a sign that was chalkin' a lil' an' flat lookin'.... when the customer did'nt wanna spring fer a whole new sign, or when I had to touch-up a wrecked spot that made the rest of the old copy look blah... but I don't care for "Wessen"....these days I try to stay away from sodium/cholesterol/fat.
