Hi there!

I recently bought an Edge, and thought it would be fun to print a few samples from my old GA6.0 rev E CD.

In particular some of the Mike Jackson stuff, under Jackson/moremj

However going into that section of samples on my CD via gspplot, print existing spool file just brings up an error message access denied??...I realise these files can't be edited but I mailed Mike and he said you could print them via gspplot....any ideas...today I am using Omega CP 1.56 build 19

Many thanks,

Henry

Henry,

I'll check it with mine when I go into the shop tomorrow.

I don't know why they wouldn't work.

Henry, this is working from memory and may not be exactly correct.

The Edge plot spooler is a separate program from GA6 and Omega. You can go into the Gerber programs directory and open the spooler just like a separate program. Then within the spooler you can open and print certain types of files. You cannot edit the file other than the usual plot spooler options. This function allows you to open and print files that you might not otherwise be able to open.

Hope this helps. Vic G

Hi Henry. Try accessing those samples by going to them through the "Samples" directory (c:\jobs\samples)

From that directory, you should be able to print what you require. The Gerber Learning Guide 2 - Page 122 gives this information. In that directory, you're also supposed to be able to view & display the various fill characteristics, and you may even be able to edit and change them as well. Good Luck

Thanks Glenn,

Ken and Vic,

I opened gspplot and then file/print existing spool file then browse to my GA6 cd /jobs/samples/mjackson/moremj then to final.spl its when I click on that or any other samples that I get the path as above and access denied...retry or cancel??

I have even copied the samples folder direct to my harddrive with no difference.

I think its abit strange..

Henry, my recollection, which may be wrong, is that you can open a plt file with the spooler. GA6 is at the shop so we can't check. Is there something like file/open in gspplot? Vic G

Hi Henry,
Yes, Victor is correct. Start Plot Spooler, then open one of the final spool files. Your Edge will need to be on and ready. From there, just put in the color of vinyl and the color of foil as prompted. Number One is Mill Street Bakery, a process color project (plus Gold Medal) used in quite a few Gerber ads.

Number 3 is the Variety is the Spice of Life project, and it is probably well worth the effort to print out. It requires four color process and either Silver Medal or Gold Medal. It shows a bunch of Photoshop techniques.

Quite a few years ago, Gerber hired me to produce five custom Edge projects to show off some of the special features, materials, and techniques. They are all included under:

jobs>samples>mjackson>moremjck

Unfortunately, they are not included in the Omega disks.

(After digging around here, it is apparent the later NINE projects never made it to the sample folders either. That's a bummer, because they had quite a few nifty designs and techniques. I don't know if they ever made them available, or just used the files as backdrops for shows.)

You can print the spool files on the 6.x disks with no problems right off the CD, but you will not be able to change the images, including resizing. Some of the outlines are included on the disk, but I don't think the tif files are with them. You can at least see how the files were constructed.

Have fun!

Mike and everyone else,

Just wanted to say it appears all Omega 1.5x shipments that included the URW Fonts CD do in fact have the samples. They were just moved over to URW Fonts CD compared to the actual Omega install media. Unfortunately, looks like they got the “ax” with the URW CD’s that were pressed after June of 2002. I believe that CD is what is included with the Omega 2.0 package, so these samples are no longer available to folks just getting into Gerber software. Just a FYI…
