What vinyl paintmask do you use, and why?

Thanks in advance for your input!

One of my suppliers has out of date vinyl for very very reasonable prices and labels it for exactly what it is,with no warranty(less than 30 day use). I use this and do not squeegee it down just use hand pressure. It works great 9 times out of ten,and is very very cost effective. I can buy a 50 yrd roll for less than the cost of a ten yard roll of paint mask. it only has to stick for as long as it takes the paint to be put on,....usually about 10 minutes max.

I've just started using one of the new Oracals masks, because its translucent and you can see your alignment marks through it, so its easier to set up. It seems to work as well as the Avery for me, so far. I've only used the Avery white mask -- haven't tried their yellow.

I too have used old 2mil cast vinyl that I wouldnt trust on sign due to age. I dont use a lot of paint mask but it works great and doesent leave a high ridge. I've been using it for the last 20 years that way.

I use Avery white. Tried the old vinyl method one time when I was out of mask and had to deal with glue residue all over. Ruined the job and had to start over. NEVER again!

I very much enjoy Gerber Mask for most FLAT Surfaces.......

But on Contours and Carved Work,Airbrushing....I will work with Spraylat.(Blue Mask)
This product doesn't work well with HDU Board!

Santo!

How are you, brother?

Thanks everyone!

We sell a pile of Gerbermask and the people who use it LOVE it...so I'm not surprized to see it get a few recommendations here.

My problem is that we have a big corporate account using Gerbermask whose management have a mandate to cut costs by (apparently) any means available. We're not in a position to discount the Gerbermask any further, so I thought I would try to help them achieve their goals by sourcing and evaluating some alternatives.

GerberMask is by far the best. The problem
with Gerber is that it is so expensive.
PSS (Product Sign Supply) gave me some other
brand name; Calon I think, but I haven't used
it yet.

For hand cut mask, I use regular transfer tape.
Works increcibly well. I use transfer tape for
larger copy. Its quick & its cheep; pennies
per foot.

We use scraps of intermediate around here. Ameriban's Bannercal works the best.
Residue problems usually come from using high performance vinyl. High performance can also get burned by automotive paints. Don't ask how I know.
