It seems my life is on hold right now...

Its not that I can't make up my mind what I'm doing next.... but rather that I have to wait for others to make up their minds. THis often comes with the territory in the work I choose to do. But I generally have a series of propjects in the pipeline and a little wait is no big deal.

This year its a little different.

We are on the verge of three very large projects. One is all planned out to the smallest detail. Our own project, its been designed a hundred times over and each revision has made the project a humdinger. After many years of waiting we are finally ready to go. We put forward our offer three weeks ago, supposedly a done deal - a no brainer we were told and now we wait.... deadlines extended again and again while the beaurocrats and polititians we deal with decide our future. The meetings are private and we aren't invited, we sit in the dark and wait.

The next project under consideration will decide what I do for the next three months. It would give us a great financial boost before we start our own next phase. The design has been done... and done again... and done once again. Janis and I travelled a thousand miles this past week to negotiate a deal and waited three more days in a hotel... more meetings and revisions, revisions, revisions... Then we were excused from the meetings and told to go home and wait... maybe a decision tomorrow?

And the third large project... in discussion for almost a year, redesign, redesign, redesign... But only preliminary ideas until this week,,, now the real work starts but not until tomorrow... maybe!

And I'm SO GOOD at waiting... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just know its all going to be decided on the very same day, no doubt... all GO, GO, GO!

I can see it now...

See Dan run! RUN DAN RUN! [Smile]

Wish us luck.

Yes, good luck! I feel your pain and anticipation. I was appointed to fill a spot on our city's "Smart Growth" committee. Smart Growth legislation is a state mandate that is to be done by 2010, perhaps 2015 with the recent state wide budget cuts.

What I have learned so far: In the end, you have a plan for Smart Growth. Prior to that, someone develops or designs the plan. Prior to that, you need to plan for the plan. Prior to that, you need to plan for planning the plan and prior to that you need to plan for the planning of the planning of the plan. It seems to work itself backwards to a point where I wonder how any of this stuff EVER gets figured out.

My guess on your wait is that these folks don't have a clue and need to get educated.

Hang in there.

Good luck Dan! I can't wait to see how these projects turn out. They're always so fun to see.

make plans to do something -- book a cruise to Alaska, or start refinishing the shop floor. that usually makes everything break free. just as soon as you've got the tickets in your hand the phone will ring telling you to start the project the day before your trip...

its like waiting for UPS... a trip to the bathroom is usually all it takes. as soon as your close the door and drop your pants the truck rolls up.

Well, the first of the three has been settled... and easier than I could have imagined. I thought we would get lots of cuts to the plan....

They expanded on it and it was a done deal in less than five minutes. 14 weeks work to do in 10 weeks.

We are on our way to Edmonton on thursday... til Christmas.

As for the other two projects....hmmmm

I have a two oclock appointment on one of them. [Smile]
