As the years go on, we're slowing down. I spent much of my life working 12-14 hours a day. Now, we go to the shop and do four. We take in the jobs we really want and send the rest on. We still love what we do, but get tired. I was not expecting this.

I hear ya. I'm almost 60, and that may still seem young, but like I say, it's not the age, it's the milage, and this odometer has gone around a few times already.
I've been an early riser and an active person my whole life. I'm up before 5am and I generally don't sit until after 9pm.
But the older I get, the more and more I have to break up my day and try and get off of my feet for a bit. Two full knee replacements on the same knee in the last 11 years has not helped. Lots of hours on concrete floors, hundreds of miles of mountain hiking and thousands of miles on the bicycle helped to promote that.
It's almost 10am as I type this. I've been down at the shop for a few hours. Time to get off of my feet for an hour.

I installed a sign a month or so ago where I had to dig 2 24" deep post holes and set in concrete. I decided it was my last one. Years ago it was just another job. It's hard to find good part-time help. Most of my work now is designing and outsourcing production which is OK with me now. I am still a signpainter at heart, but no more wall jobs or anything that requires heavy lifting. I'm still in pretty good shape for 70 and want to keep it this way. It's a little sad realizing those jobs are all in the past, and I didn't really expect to get old this soon. It's been quite a journey. I looked back at some old photos recently and was imperessed with how hard I worked!
