I hear there are people fleeing, but there must be more coming in. The roads in San Diego are more crowded every year. I thought denatured alcohol was one of the safer solvents.

It's available everywhere here. What's going on there, are the kids drinking it or making meth? I use shellac quite a bit, so it's an essential here.

Apparently, Southern and Northern California are under different rules. Strange that Acetone and lacquer thinner are still sold. I use Shellac, too. I'll have to pick some up next time I visit Arizona.

for interior furniture projects I still get my shellac in crystals, but for sign shop purposes we get the ready mixed in cans. Either way, alcohol is needed.

Who makes these stupid rules up? They need to be fired. And yet Acetone or nail polish remover is sold everywhere.

Can you imagine the headline in your local paper, "Huge crackdown bust in San Diego. Signmaker found with still in garage making alcohol. Says it's for thinning shellac." Sgt. Casey said he tasted it and it's first class product. "Glad it didn't get to the school kids 600 feet away.

Ya know, I still have over 50% of this paint that I bought at Grimco's online paint auction from a few years ago,,, Paint Sale Not only 1-Shot, but a 10 gallons of Chromatic background leaded enamel. But just yesterday, I used up the last of my Chromatic "Leaded" black. I mixed it 50/50 with newer 1-Shot black. So I now have a little over a gallon of my special mix black.

Very interesting, Rick. I haven't used the shellac flakes in a few years. Maybe I'd like them better if I used better alcohol. I usually use the Zinnzer Seal Coat now. I've never seen Everclear, even back in my drinking days. I probably would have tried it, but not for shellac. I have a couple of gallons of denatured I picked up when I was on a camping trip to Arizona a few weeks ago. Now I use it to kill germs.

I found a five gallon can of denatured at the paint store yesterday for under $40 and bought it. It's not the 200 proof, but it works the shellac. I've been using shellac quite a bit mixing shine juice for a finish on much of my wood turnings.
