Hey, Snapped a job lettering a 71 chevy pickup truck for a chevy dealership. They want lettering on the doors and lettering on boards they are attaching on the bed. They want it hand painted (no problem) but they want it to look 1970's. I didn't start lettering until the 1980's so if you old time pros can post some pictures of what a business truck lettering looked like in 1970, it would be fun for everyone to see your stuff. It also might inspire me. They insist I hand paint the 1971 chevy logo on the truck with their name.

not a lot of differance in the styles back then, and do they want it "aged" look? like its been on the truck since 1972??? we have a lady in the car club bought a 70's chevy with lettering on the door....... now iam not sure its original(70's) but the truck has not redone.........so if its a newer door graphic it sure has been on the truck for a while. Old Paint's examples on the link he posted are exactly what I use to get inspiration for hand lettering older pick ups and stuff. Plus I have a morgue file of old photos I took of doors and lettering from salvage yards and all over. I'll try to post some of my recent truck lettering, if I can figure out how to post photos!

Plain Egyptian text, white, with black drop shade set off an eighth inch in black. Main text on an arch. Sub text straight and black. Phone numbers big. Don't put it too high on door.
