I've long believed a sign is much more than just a flat substrate with letters on it. In our shop we define a sign as anything that brings attention to our customers product, service or business. That leaves a lot of room for some pretty fun projects.
A long time customer owns a campground and is building a new store/restaurant/house. They asked me to look at their plans and help them out. No problem.
The architect had drawn a plan they liked but the outside of the building was down right ordinary.
Our client loved the giant trees on our house but wanted a more 'woodsy' look. As I looked over the plan the biggest change I made was to increase the size of the front porch. A giant tree on the show corner of the building provided some drama... but it needed something more.... A sleeping bear was just the ticket. More gnarly trees hold up the rest of the porch and some sculpted rock work along the base will anchor the building nicely. There will be two dimensional signs as well of course, one over the front door and another hanging under the sleeping bear. I'll get to designing them in due course but the client has already enthusiastically approved the job. We'll also be doing some theme work and signs inside the ground floor as well.

Hey, Dan what brand of fertilizer do they use in your neck of the woods? It must be some pretty potent stuff, judging from the way you come up with all of these far-out designs that you do. Your work always amazes me. Just don't stop. Peace, Don

The first drawing reads as a House, just a house. The second one says, "Vacation", more of a tourist distination. Hey, I made a rhyme, a rap!

I bet when the "Architect" saw Dan's re-design he got a little hot under the collar, thinking to himself, "Oh, I didn't know I was up against Antoni Gaudi".

Not all architects agree with the vision I provide to their plans but this guy actually enjoyed my drawings and ideas. I look forward to working with him.
