One caveat Glenn...For those who live outside the USA (or if it doesn't work) you have to make a small change to your settings first.

Go to Control Panel> Clock, Language & Regions> Change Location> Administrative tab and change the location to "English-Unites States".

Once that is done the download will work fine.

The change can easily be reversed after the upgrade.

That was the only way I was able to manually do the upgrade and it worked perfectly.

Another thing that will be needed IF you wish to do a clean install on different drive is a Microsoft product key. That was easy on win XP or 7 because there was a sticker somewhere on the computer case. Windows stopped doing that with Win 8 and 8.1. It is now embedded in BIOS. You need a small utility that can find it for you so you can write it down or print it out.

I used "Produkey" from..

For anyone who is sitting on the fence about upgrading.....

I would suggest giving it a try...After a few days, I find Win 10 to be very user friendly and noticeably faster. "Edge" as a browser is different than IE but with a bit of getting used to and getting things set up the way I like it, it is VERY much snappier.

What the heck, the upgrade is free and can easily be reversed within a month.

If you use and like Win 7, Win 10 won't be much of a change. If you use and like Win 8/8.1, it's features are still there but not so invasive.

(FOR WAYNE WEBB...That stupid "right side" fly-out is also gone!!!!)

I am loving Win 10.

Easy as it can be Mario...

Control Panel>Back-up and Restore>

But I very much doubt you'd want to if you spend a couple of days with Win 10.

What I found interesting was that every single program I use is fully compatible with Win 10...even OLD CorelDraw X3. Heck I have some old programs from the days of Win 95 and they still work fine.

I finished upgrading all 7 computers in the shop last night.

I only found one hiccup. One of my laptops is a 3 year old HP Pavilion DM4. After upgrading, the "double-tap" function on the touchpad quit working.

After spending a few hours trying to find a solution, it turns out that particular laptop is not qualified for Windows 10 if it was manufactured before August 2013. There are no drivers available at this time to correct the issue.

The Toshiba laptop that I bought earlier this year upgraded just fine without a single problem.

Thanks Glenn..currently use wireless mouse and keyboard and monitor with my laptop...I unplugged everything and, fortunately, the touchpad worked fine. Thanks for mentioning that. [Applause]

I upgraded, but being used to Windows 8.1, after less than a day, I am ready to go back to 8.1. I'm not seeing any speed improvements, and I am having issues with it just locking up.

And looking it up on google, going back is not that easy. It looks like there is some fine print that says that you have to use a 32mb thumbdrive to download an update that takes it back.

Am I correct on this, or is there an easy way to downgrade?

Updated to add... I searched, and thanks to an article on CNet, it was not that bad. It is buried in the start menu. The downgrade only took about half an hour....

Sorry to hear of your problems Mark, but at least they were easily resolved.

I guess that some dedicated signmaking programs may not be able to be upgraded. (But many folks also use "older" programs that they are used to and are comfortable with, and don't want to give up.)

I have heard reports of certain monitor drivers not being supported too.

Maybe time to upgrade stuff?

I like being "kinda" on top of the newest stuff, and have been for many years.

Everything on Shirl's and my computers works fine with Win 10 (Also know how to reverse to 8.1 if we need to, but I doubt that will happen)

(I am like Wayne Webb, I hated that stupid "fly-out" on the right side of the screen in Win 8.1!! [Rolling On The Floor] [Bash] [Rolling On The Floor]

I upgraded from W7 when I shut down the computer Friday night. It was the most hassle free upgrade I've ever experienced. I love it.

It's fixed a few nagging things that I could never get right in W7, such as saving my folder view preferences and getting web pages to load properly, which was some conflict that had come up that I couldn't eliminate.

I had to keep Chrome, Explorer, and Firefox open on my W7 machine, depending on what I wanted to do. I tried the new Edge browser but prefer Chrome. On my computer, Edge (and IE on W7) uses some default condensed thick and thin font for copy on comments on articles that is very hard for these old eyes to read. I haven't been able change that. Chrome uses a more legible type.

I used W8 ONE TIME and that was enough for me!

has anyone had a problem with their summa plotter after installing win 10? I went from win 7 this past weekend to 10. yesterday I sent a new file from my CorelDraw x5 to my plotter and the last file I had sent over from win 7 appeared...and I can't get rid of it !!
the plotter still works and cuts the previous file from win 7(?) but won't connect with new file from win 10.
should I uninstall winplot and then reinstall winplot from summausa.com/support ?

footnote : just spoke with summa tech support and they said it may take up to 6 months for fix to come up for new os...he said try uninstall/reinstall. if that doesn't work, i'll restore win7 and resume my happy life !!

confused in Oregon ! any advise appreciated

I was concerned that my Flexisign 8.5 would not work so contacted SAI & was told that my Flexi would NOT work on Windows 10.
I got the upgrade to 10 on my desktop & found it was a much better OS than W7 that I was on before.
When I found how easy it was to revert back to 7 I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 on my 4 year old Sony Viao running Windows 7 & see if Flexi would work.
It works flawlessly !!!

I so enjoy being retired & exploring new technology. If anyone is interested in how good Xiaomi product are, give me a shout.

I had a free "upgrade" to Windows 8 coming when I bought my present W7 computer. After trying W8 once at my neighbor's house when my printer quit and I had to print something, I knew I'd never employ my "upgrade". Windows 10 has been a pleasant surprise. Everything has worked well out of the box, or more accurately, after the download.

I finally found one "glitch" with Win 10. Since the upgrade, the "acquire image(/scan)" function in CorelDraw X3 is greyed out. Under Win 10, it seems that Draw doesn't recognise the scanner driver, even though I have installed the latest Win 10 driver for the scanner.

(I figured out an easy work-around. Use the scanner's proprietary scan utility and "associate it" to automatically open in Draw)

Oh well, CorelDraw X3 is 9 years old and I am surprised it even works at all with the newer operating systems. I guess I'll be buying version X7 or wait for X8 which should be out next year.

Edited to add...I figured I'd try un-installing Draw X3 and doing a clean install. OPPS, wrong idea. Windows 10 won't let that happen (not compatible! LOL) Sooo, I just reserved Corel Graphics Suite X7 and will pick it up tomorrow at Staples. What the heck, I have wanted a newer version for a couple of years so this is the time.

I'll update the results tomorrow.

Joe, I just got X7 installed and I see a few changes that I'll have to check out but it looks familiar enough and it IS compatible with Win 10, which X3 wasn't completely.

After 9 years, I'll miss X3 but ya gotta change with the times!

Probably could Ian, but why bother? Eventually we all have to upgrade stuff. And, other than the initial learning curve, the new operating systems and programs usually are better than the older stuff.

I have been using Win 10 for 2 weeks now and I really like it. I have no intention of downgrading to Win 7 or Win 8.x.

Now that I have installed Corel X7 and played with it for a few hours, I see a lot of improvements over X3 (Heck for $550 there should be improvements over a 9 year old program! [Smile] ) and some "different" things that I'll just have to learn and accept.

For what it is worth, the combo of Win 10 and Corel X7 has not slowed down my computers at all.
