It depends on the spelling...Joe was asking about it without the N in the middle.
Two relatives had it. It tended to make them gain a bit of weight (or look fatter anyhow) and change their personality - becoming more a bit quick tempered or short tempered, from memory.

Just remember, Joe......some of the side effects are as bad or worse than whatever you're taking it for.
I know, at one time, my brother was taking it; and he was Always sick, with some kind of bug, flu, cold, crud, etc. Apparently, it does weaken the immune system.

I was on maximum dose 80mg/day for 8 months for ulcerative colitis, I had insomnia, developed a "moon face', gained weight on my arms,waist and back, vertigo and headaches, bruised easily and had stomach aches. After they discontinued the medication they sent me for a bone density scan because it can cause bone loss (mine was fine). You can't just "quit" the medication, especially on high doses like I had, you need to be gradually weaned off. In addition you need to be cautious about exposing yourself to infectious diseases as it compromises your immunity. I personally don't think it helped in my case at all, but I know others who feel it saved their lives.

i have a muscle disease. either POLYMYOCITS OR INCLUSIVE BODY MYOCITIS ..... one that really has no cure. 2-3 different thing they try, this drug is one of em. in blood work there are many "markers." the one that tell doctors i have this is CPK levels. just like your A1C elevated, means your prone to be diabetic. this CPK, is muscle enzymes, that seem to be destroying themselves. the drug is supposed to slow/stop that process. iam also taking herbal things that should help. tumeric cla....conjugated lisergic acid. dhea co-q-10 fish oil.

I was just on it....and many other meds for the past little while. I think it helped for a bad case of pneumonia (or polyurethane dust in my lungs)?? I'm still taking Ventolin, Advair and Spiriva. I meet with a cario team next week. I only used the Prednisone during the worst part of it. I was a bit sluggish coming off it - for a few days. Someone did advise taking extra Calcium when you are on it though.

On a serious note Joe....And to answer your question.
Shirley's father was prescribed prednisone for a serious lung problem (not smoking related) and it extended his life by several years.
A friend of ours was also prescribed prednisone for lung cancer (smoking related) and it also extended his life by several years.
In both cases weight gain occurred, but in both cases, side effects of prednisone resulted in death. So, yes, it definitely prolonged life but in the end it's side effects ended life. In both cases the extended life was one of active lifestyle and the eventual death was sudden with no pain.
My only personal experience with the drug was a 2 week low dose trial to see if it would shrink or remove nasal polyps. It did not work for me and since the dosage was low and the time period so short, I suffered no side effects.

don......iam very capable to research what ever the doctors prescribe.yes...........he did tell me of the side effects. unlike you, i require a little more of others experience with the drug.........is what i asked for.....

Joe...I hear that Prednisone can drive one bat sh*t crazy...if they're not already...so as far as that side effect goes you'll probably notice little if any change.

Don...I believe Joe was just asking for personal experiences from a group of folks he knows. He wasn't asking for professional advice.
You might think his response to your comment was unpleasant. But, think about it....maybe your original comment to him was kind of unpleasant also?
