Just lettered 6 windows for a car dealer and they want to cover the vinyl lettering until they open in January. What should I use? Need something waterproof that will last a couple of months and will not harm the vinyl. Got any suggestions? PS: In order to obtain a license to sell autos in Georgia, you must send in a picture of your location with signs. This process takes 60 days. So this is why he had the windows lettered so early.

I would think that you could use colored plastic table cloths - get them at the dollar store - and tape them over the vinyl lettering. Toss them when you're done.

I bought some very thin styrene from Midwest Sign. I think it comes in some pretty wide rolls and was fairly cheap if I remember right. Just tape it to the glass with clear packaging tape. The idiot sign maker on the other side of my county uses it on exterior signs to seal the edge of graphics he installs. It doesn't last very long (in sign age) but it should hold up a few months. Or maybe Coroplast, also taped on.

Marvelous opportunity to sell some "Coming Soon" tyvek signs... Use Avery double sided stickies to hold them in place.

Cover the wincsheild with the cloths, pull the ends inside the car doors and close the doors on them. No tape!

Hiya Judy, How big are the windows? I would use whatever opaque material I have in stock or can easily get for cheap - coroplast, banner material, etc.

You can use a temporary adhesive vinyl too such as 3MIJ36, and could print that with any message they might want. I've never tried it over regular vinyl that was on glass but I'm sure it would be fine. If you're interested in this idea, I'll try it for you.

That's right Shirley, just six 5' x 8' windows to cover at a used car dealer. Like your idea of vinyl table cloths from the Dollar store. These windows have wooden frames so they talked about nailing some old used signs across each window. But I will check back with them tomorrow and see what they want to do. Who carried Tyvek and does it come in white or colors? Thanks for all your answers. Judy
