Hi Folks, click HERE to go to a book called the Modern signwriter and up to date ornamentor.
It is a book I have been looking for for years after reading an old review on it, and seeing pictures of the coloured leafy acanthus scrolls.
The PDF can be downloaded-it's only about 3.5 meg.
Happy browsing!

Very nice! 1895 date... Would love to see more from that time as the scroll work really is something that we have lost in today's design look.

It is beautiful. I knew about the book years ago, having read a book review in a 1902 trade journal. However they made a spelling mistake in the word 'ornamenter', (called it ornamentator), and got the 'modern up to date' part at the wrong end of the name, so every time I did a search of online shops etc, I could not find it.
Suddenly, changing spellings and being a bit more vague, and 'bingo!' here it is!

It's only 3 meg, Rick-I went and downloaded it as a file and opened the pdf on the hard drive, then saved the first 16 pages as jpgs from Photoshop & printed them off as 8x12 photos - it worked fine.

After I looked at the book, I could see its influence in the panel I have hanging on my wall from a swap a few years ago. Bravo - as Kathy said, "Inspirational"....
